The Lion and the Hyena
The animal kingdom, when studied with discernment, can give us great insight into the demonic realm. Such is the case of the LION and the HYENA. These two creatures are natural enemies, and they have a hatred for each other, that can be called eternal. The bad blood between lions and spotted hyenas runs deep, and is one of the most celebrated rivalries in nature.
Hyenas are disgusting creatures that represent unclean spirits. Lions can also represent demons, but can also represent Christ and believers.
The hyena has one of the strongest jaws in the animal kingdom and an adult of the species has only the large cats of the family Felidae (Lions, Tigers, etc.) to fear. An adult hyena’s bite pressure can reach 800 lbs. per inch; it can crush bone.
Hyenas are unclean animals which represent sexual deviancy and lawlessness. The hyena is an ugly, vicious scavenger of whose jaws are as twice as powerful as those of a lion. A hyena is a scavenger because it does not mainly kill other animals for its food, but prefers to feed on what has remained of other hunts.

“A female hyena is a “mistress” of chaos. It is common to see female lions climbing trees in fear of hyenas. Female lions do not intimidate hyenas at — they only fear the males. The Queen hyena only fears the King of each pride.
In the hyena society males are physically smaller, weaker and take the subservient role. They live in fear of the females, especially the matriarch, one dominant female – the queen.
Female hyenas hate and fear the male lion. But they are not the objects of his disdain. His focus is to kill the queen. He knows if he kills her, he has disrupted the entire pack. And only the king of beasts is brave enough to encounter her. In truth, he is eager to confront the hyena queen.
It takes a King male lion to kill the queen Hyena. He stalks the matriarch, she panics — he runs her down, falls on and breaks her back, and with one bite on her neck, deals a death blow. And with mommy dead, the young would-be queen is shunned from the pack to fend for herself. Her not-so-loyal subjects may even murder her. The remaining adult females must now fight for the dominant position of Queen.
The hyena’s hierarchy presents a clear picture of how demonic authority breaks down once a ruling spirit is expelled from a believer. Demons cannot be destroyed. They, once expelled, seek to return or find a new host.” (Thom C. Minnick)
