John Wesley was a holy man, and an Anglican priest his whole life. The backdrop of his life was in 17th century England, where is was almost illegal to be a Catholic. Had he been born in Italy, he would probably have become a Fransican. His Arminian teachings grew later to blossom into the Methodist Church in America. It was never his intention to start a new church.

His greatest theological achievement was his promotion of what he termed "Christian Perfection", or holiness of heart and life.1

As opposed to when it was illegal to be anything but catholic LOL

John Wesley also believed in the Ascension Of Mary and Blessed Marys perpetual virginity. So didn't King Henry the Eight [ as did Luther, Knox, Zwigley and other Protestant church inventors] until he was persuaded by greedy members of his royal entourage to forsake Catholicism and to start his own man-made church and become it's unbiblical pope , which then later became a Protestant tradition for any protester against Christ's Church to just invent any church that felt good for them, Continuous splitting , watered- down and moving further away from the Gospel, this method has become the 'norm' for all of the splintery Protestant churches along with their off-shoot cults. Not one 'church' of Protestantism was ever the church found in Matt. 18: 15-18 . Not one Protestant church ever contained the doctrine that was found in Christ's Apostolic/ Universal which means Catholic as described in these two verses Romans 16: 17-18 and 1 Cor. 1: 10 ,notice that all "doctrine " was applied THEN and not starting in the 16th century when the first amongst now thousands upon thousands of protesting churches began.

neophyte, I admire your zeal but you need to learn a few things about posting in non-Catholic forums. Your tone is combative, your content is erroneous (Mary did not "Ascend") and off topic and overall, counterproductive to the Catholic apologetic movement. You have a lot of reading to do.

First, you should pray before posting, or enjoy the music in the video. Then you should do some research on John Wesley so you can make a sensible contribution.

John Wesley: a "Catholic Methodist"?

Wesley did not accept Catholicism due to the anti-Catholic background of 18th century England that he grew up in. His teachings on personal holiness were more compatible with Catholicism than Anglicanism, which may explain why he was not well received by his peers.

2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal,

The Lord knoweth them that are his.

And,

Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
