Nothing written specifically in the Bible is just superstition. Not if you believe the Bible is God's spoken Word written down on paper. However, the tendency is to get caught up in the details, while missing the point. Whether a beastly ruler in the world (of which there have been and still are many) requires people in his realm to get a mark in their forehead or their hand is less important than the warning of God to not allow your conscience, nor your deeds, to be dictated by men OVER the written will of God.
We should believe and obey God for our own good, rather than believe, obey, and trust people who most likely have a hidden or openly corrupt agenda. I.e. we will stand before God to be judged on our own, and the old saw of obeying the powers that be, wont apply. In the end, we will answer to God, not to men, so obey God, rather then men, when those men or women demand something from you that is plainly contrary to your conscience from God. (Acts 5:29)
