Hello there,

I bought a book for a member of my family at Christmas time, because I thought it would be of interest to him, only to find that I could not put it down when I opened it; I am now 3/4 of the way through and am gripped. It is not a book I would ever have thought would interest me, but it has me enthralled.

It is entitled, 'Emancipation', and is written by Michael Goldfarb. On the cover the reader is told that the book shows how liberating Europe's Jews from the Ghetto led to Revolution and Renaissance. It is written through the experiences of known historical characters, who were liberated from the confines of life within the Ghetto's situated in various countries within Europe, and tells the history of the times in doing so. From before the Napoleonic war in France onward.

It has opened my eyes to the plight of the Jew following the dispersion of AD70; and made me want to find out more.

I hope you will not mind my sharing this with you, for it is not a Christian publication, but for me it has made me aware of the pattern of events taking place in history, and the sense of forward movement as all heads up to the fulfilment of God's prophetic promises, made known to us in His Word.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

So did you run out and buy a different gift for the family member...or just give them a photo of the book and say..." yours when I am done". :)

Blessings...Helen

Ha!! Like it, Helen! ;)

I gave him something else instead, but took the book down for him to see on Christmas day, and he said he wouldn't mind reading it sometime, but wasn't greatly enthusiastic; whereas his brother, and my husband both want to read it after me.

This morning I was drawn to read from Deuteronomy, about the blessings and curses laid before the Children of Israel, by God, through Moses, from chapter 27 onward, and Deuteronomy 18:15-19, about the coming of One like unto Moses, to Whom they were to listen, and if they did not, it would be required of them; and my mind went to the words of our Lord concerning the generation of His Own day being a wicked generation, and of what would be laid to their account. It is indeed a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:28:31).

I knew nothing about what happened to the Jews who survived the destruction of AD70, except that they were scattered among the nations. Looking online after entering the OP I found something online concerning that destruction, Jerusalem, AD70: The Worst Desolation Ever? which I printed off to read offline. It must have been an horrendous time.

I feel that I was meant to read this book, with what purpose I don't know yet, but I am sure that my thoughts are being directed here for a purpose.

With love in Christ Jesus
Chris

Looking forward to hearing more.
Hi @brakelite

In the weeks leading up to the discovery of the book, and since, there have been increasing reports of antisemitism within Britain and elsewhere, culminating this week with the attack in New York. The pattern of events seem to be happening again, as have happened throughout history.

I don't understand the present day situation in Israel, prophetically, but whenever I hear of anti-Semitic activity I think of a sheep-dog gradually gathering the sheep, and wonder if that is what is happening, as Jewish families are being made uncomfortable and threatened within the countries of their choice, and are being gradually brought back to their homeland still.

The years are going by, but movement is constantly taking place within world events, and we are living through and become the history that future generations will look back on, as I am doing while reading this book, if only superficially: mapping the progress of the Jew in exile within the lands of their choosing. How long will it be, before the events prophesied take place, and Christ return to take up His throne and reign?

'For from the top of the rocks I see him,
and from the hills I behold him:
lo, the people shall dwell alone,
and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
Who can count the dust of Jacob,
and the number of the fourth part of Israel?
Let me die the death of the righteous,
and let my last end be like his!'

(Numbers 23:9-10)

Hello there,

The word of God through Balaam concerning Israel (above) shows that they will never be reckoned among the nations. They will always be separate. Even now when still scattered among the nations, they cannot avoid their separateness. They can be, 'in', but not, 'of', whether they be 'in the land' or outside it.

I have been reading about the plight of the Jew in exile throughout Europe before the horrors of the world wars. They have suffered very much at the hands of Christians throughout the centuries. They have also been championed by Christians too, as in this present day.

They are very often viewed with suspicion because of their very 'otherness', that 'otherness' which cannot be avoided because God made them so. Yet the very blessings whereby they were blessed of God have turned out to be their curse, for they are very often resented, their divinely attributed skills and manner of life bringing wealth to them, creating jealousy. They are sought after for financial help, but resented because of the wealth and distinction that so many of them achieve by their own God given abilities, and the manner of life which God instilled into them, which many still abide by. The poor among them were, though very often well educated, reduced to becoming Tinkers, bartering goods upon the streets, or door to door. Denied as they were citizenship, and employment. Or they had to turn to the land and try to scrape a living in that way.

* Yet one day they, as a nation, will not be the tail, but the head over the nations (Deuteronomy 28:13). God's will for them will be done, and His promises fulfilled, to the glory of His Name.

In Christ Jesus
Chris
