In organizing the texts on this subject, only a select few from the Bible have been included. The goal has been to highlight the most powerful texts that clearly express three main ideas:
  1. That humanity is redeemed from death.
  2. That this redemption comes through the blood of Christ.
  3. That this redemption is available to everyone. We conclude with the biblical assertion that false teachers will reject the idea that humanity is purchased with Christ's blood.
When exploring or explaining this topic, it is important to emphasize the meanings of the Greek words that are translated as Ransom. There are two terms, Anti and Lutron, which indicate a corresponding price.

  • Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, (Luke 1:68.)
  • Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; (Ps. 103:4.)
  • For the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he. (Jer. 31:11.)
  • And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible. (Jer. 15:21.)I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes. (Hos. 13:14.)
  • Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (Gal. 3:13.)
  • For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45.)
  • Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. (Heb. 9:12.)
  • For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. (1 Tim. 2:5,6.)
  • In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: (Col. 1:14.)
  • And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:2.)
  • For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. (1 Tim. 4:10.)
  • For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. (1 Cor. 6:20.)
  • Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: (1 Pet. 1:18,19.)
  • Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. (Acts 20:28.)
  • And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; (Rev. 5:9.)
  • But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (2 Pet. 2:1.)
