Hi there,
So you may or may not get something from this, because I am speculating outside the Bible - but from my observation, Lucifer (not "the Devil") is at work at the moment. The Bible talks about the Devil being let out of the pit, to test the nations - my understanding is that that happens hundreds of years from now - at the moment however, we are being tested for what we know about Christ: it is Lucifer that tests "knowledge". The Devil tests soul, Lucifer tests knowledge.
Now, you will have to make your own observations, the fact that I speculate that Lucifer has already been placed in the pit, might strike you as irrelevant, but what I think you'll find is that when it comes to temptation, what you struggle with most is what you think you "know". It would help to pray about this, seek the Holy Spirit's council -that's true!
The point is, if you are struggling with temptation in the mind, it doesn't help to vex yourself over the state of your soul. These are distinct types of temptation. Of course, the old rule that Christ talked about still stands "If Satan is against Satan, how can his kingdom stand?" (from memory, the Gospels). If you defend your soul, you will eventually be delivered of your mind, just perhaps not in this life. Being ready with scripture is the best answer, ultimately, since all aspects of the body are addressed by scripture.
As I said, consider it, see if it makes sense that the serpent would test Eve, that Christ would save and that that knowledge of salvation would be tested - in that order.
I hope this has been of some encouragement.
God bless.
