I agree. Wholeheartedly, for righteousness, obedience to God's commandments, comes by faith. Therefore if anyone does continue to sin would it be fair to say that such a state is the result of unbelief?

Yes, they were never saved to begin with, 2 Pet 2. You would need the Holy Spirit to discern Godly sorrow.

Can such people (who continue to practice sin) frequent our churches and profess to be Christians on the basis of their belief in the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ?

I think people loose their way being distracted by the lust of the flesh ie, influence, money, sex, pride, instant gratification etc. These things shift the focus in its host and if maintained choke out the good seed while a form of godliness sits in the drivers seat.
Yes, the shift of allegiance has become unbelief.

Yes, that is what is called confessing with your mouth and not believing in your heart. They have knowledge of Christ, but they haven't fully surrendered their heart and lives to Him.

If they profess NON-OSAS, works salvation or they don't believe that it's finished at the cross or that future sins are not payed for, then you will know them by their fruit.

Matt 7:15-16 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Matt 7:22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’

2 Pet 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.

God bless.

With all the mighty creative life-giving transforming power of God promised and at our disposal, what excuse is there for any Christian to continue in sin?

Which is why Jesus told His disciples to make disciples of new believers as many will sin and they know not what they do.

I had met a christian that cannot believe that one can never have sex before marriage. He even believed it was impossible. It was like.... no way. And not getting sex when he goes out on a date with a girl would blacklist the girl as no fun and he was not dating her again.

Guess who has not been reading His words in the Bible? You really think every saved believer has read the whole Bible? Has any church make it a point to speak against sex before marriage annually since the world is telling them differently everyday in the media & from peer pressure?

Jesus said forgive them Father for they know not what they do....

So instead of guilt tripping unrepentant believers who may or may not know what you are calling as sin, it is best to teach new believers in how they can lean on Jesus Christ as their Good Shepherd for help in understanding His words and to lean on Him for help in laying aside every weight & sin too.

That goes for alcoholics who cannot see it in themselves to quit, but if you teach them of your hope in Jesus Christ to destroy the works of the devil in your life, they can hope in Him and lean on Him all the time as their Good Shepherd to help them to quit daily.

So how about prompting your church to disciple believers every Sunday if not every day?

Precisely the point I was making. With God all things are possible.
