not sure if you have already mentioned Isaiah 33:20-24? Curious with your study if you have a perspective on: “Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken. [21] But there the glorious Lord will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby. [22] For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; he will save us. [23] Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey. Isa 45:14 Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.

Jhn 2:16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.

HAHA..
I suppose it depends on what side of the river one is standing on.
What I see happen in the next verses is actually a blessing and not a curse.
But again, I suppose it depends where one stores their treasures.. :)

Rev 18:9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
Rev 18:10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
Rev 18:11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
Rev 18:12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
Rev 18:13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
Rev 18:14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
Rev 18:15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
Rev 18:16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
Rev 18:17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
Rev 18:18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!

Who is doing the crying though?
The ones losing the money.

You remember the adulterous woman, and everybody was ready to cast stones and kill her.
vs.
The brazen prostitute.. Jezebel

In the end.. God wins.

And Jesus said:
go and sin no more.

Hugs

I did a study a long time ago about the meanings of the names in the Bible.
Today I want to look at Javan.
In the book of Daniel, there is a verse regarding the "ships of Chittim"
Chittim is Kittim in Hebrew. I found Kittim is a son of Javan.
And so my study begins:

Gen 10:1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah,
Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.
Gen 10:2 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
Gen 10:3 And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
Gen 10:4 And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
Gen 10:5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

Noah: Noah = "rest"
The waters of Noah.. the flood.

Shem = "name"
the eldest son of Noah and progenitor of the Semitic tribes

Ham = "hot"
2nd son of Noah, father of Canaan and of various peoples which were inhabitants of southern lands
in late usage, a collective name for Egyptians

Japheth = "opened"
the 3rd son of Noah whose descendants after the flood settled on the coastal lands of the Mediterranean spreading north into Europe and parts of Asia

The sons of Japheth are those Gentile tribes that filled the lands of the coasts of the Mediterranean, into Europe and parts of Asia.

Gomer = "complete"
the eldest son of Japheth and grandson of Noah; the progenitor of the early Cimmerians and other branches of the Celtic family

Magog = "land of Gog"
the 2nd son of Japheth, grandson of Noah, and progenitor of several tribes northward from Israel
the mountainous region between Cappadocia and Media and habitation of the descendants of Magog, son of Japheth and grandson of Noah

Media or Medes or Madai = "middle land"
a people descended from the son of Japheth and who inhabited the territory of Media
land inhabited by the descendants of Japheth; located northwest of Persia proper, south and southwest of the Caspian Sea, east of Armenia and Assyria, and west and northwest of the great salt desert of Iram

Javan = "Ionia" or "Greece"
Greece, Ionia, Ionians
probably from the same as H3196; effervescing (i.e. hot and active);

Tubal = "thou shall be brought"
a region in east Asia Minor

Mesech or Meshech = "drawing out"
descendants of Mesech often mentioned in connection with Tubal, Magog, and other northern nations including the Moschi, a people on the borders of Colchis and Armenia

Tiras = "desire"
son of Japheth and grandson of Noah
"only says a northern nation"

next..
Oh those chips of shittim.....should I stay in calm harbours or head out to sea? Do more fish need frying or do the nets need mending?

Your study brings to mind a study of names I learned a long time ago from brilliant scholar, Chuck Missler.
The Gospel is amazingly concealed in the meaning of the names from Adam to Noah:
Hebrew English
Adam = Man
Seth = Appointed
Enosh = Mortal
Kenan = Sorrow;
Mahalalel = The Blessed God
Jared = Shall come down
Enoch = Teaching
Methuselah = His death shall bring
Lamech = The Despairing
Noah = Rest, or comfort

Now read it as in two or three sentences. It is like a brief summary from Creation to Christ.

Thought you might like that.

It's in the "thy"
Who is he talking to?
the ones with the ships. The galant ships.. all bringing their material goods to seduce and lead away.
They are not the real treasures.. for our treasure is in the tent with the stakes that are unmoveable, with the Lord.

That's how I hear it..

What I didn't know until today was that Rome had been roaming and claiming land and sea for quite awhile before Jesus was born.
These would probably be the days inbetween the OT and the NT...
Age of Darkness.. before the dawning of a new DAY.

The King of Rome (Latin: Rex Romae) was the chief magistrate of the Roman Kingdom.[1] According to legend, the first king of Rome was Romulus, who founded the city in 753 BC upon the Palatine Hill. Seven legendary kings are said to have ruled Rome until 509 BC, when the last king was overthrown. These kings ruled for an average of 35 years.

The kings after Romulus were not known to be dynasts and no reference is made to the hereditary principle until after the fifth king Tarquinius Priscus. Consequently, some have assumed that the Tarquins and their attempt to institute a hereditary monarchy over this conjectured earlier elective monarchy resulted in the formation of the republic.

King of Rome - Wikipedia

According to Livy, after the immigration of the Sabines and the Albans to Rome, the original Romans lived on the Palatine.[12] The Palatne Hill was also the site of the ancient festival of the Lupercalia.

Many affluent Romans of the Republican period (c.509 BC – 44 BC) had their residences there.

From the start of the Empire (27 BC) Augustus built his palace there and the hill gradually became the exclusive domain of emperors; the ruins of the palaces of at least Augustus (27 BC – 14 AD), Tiberius (14 – 37 AD) and Domitian (81 – 96 AD) can still be seen.

Augustus also built a temple to Apollo here.

The great fire of 64 AD destroyed Nero's palace, the Domus Transitoria, but he replaced it by 69 AD with the even larger Domus Aurea over which was eventually built Domitian's Palace [13]
