For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Losing one's soul means that the soul was not lost beforehand.
Jesus is telling us that by sinning, the soul is lost, which begins with first sinning on earth, and and any time sinning against God on earth.
Souls come into the world alive with clean spirits and pure in heart, and once the soul sins, the living soul becomes dead and lost from the life of Christ.
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Everytime.
And so, the question of 'losing' salvation is a sleight of hand argument for being saved at the same time of sinning against God for the devil.
It is the soul that is lost and dead, where there is no being saved at all.
God is not saving sinning lost souls for receiving resurrected immortal bodies forever, with unclean spirits and minds at enmity with Him and His righteous holiness.
