“… the way you came to know the Messiah. Surely you have listened to him and have been taught by him, since truth is in Jesus.”

(Ephesians 4:20-21, ISV)

Other translations of the passage speak about “learning Messiah” by ”listening to his message”.

Knowing the Messiah is learning the Messiah, and that comes from listening to him teach, listening to him preach, the gospel of the kingdom.

“My sheep hear my voice ...”

(John 10:27)

That sounds very different from “The words of Jesus are only for the Jews, not for you.”

It isn’t Paul who doesn’t want us to hear the Messiah’s voice, his words, his message, his gospel. It’s the devil.

I see and hear people asking how to know if they are following the true Messiah or someone masquerading as the Messiah.

A muted Messiah isn’t the true Messiah.

I hear in Jesus and in Paul an echo from Moses and their God, “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord” (Deuteronomy 6:4).

How do we come to know someone? In large part, by listening carefully to him or her speak.

The same is true with the one God and with his Son, the Messiah.

The Messiah I know is alive with his message of the Kingdom inside of me. These false Messiahs are objects or symbols of godly worship also found in scripture as gods of human invention, of the devil. They serve and satisfy the needs of unholy prideful religious men, not of God.

Yes, this would be their overall summary mindset of the two, as it is is also mine. Not of the Son of God who arrived much later to execute the crucial portion of God's salvific plan for the Kingdom of his God and for human eternal life.

So why cannot everyone hear then know the same one God through his Messiah Yeshua and his words, that same way as Paul? Spiritual blindness, a hardened heart, as was inflicted on the Jews of Christ's time, and times before?

I think the answer to that question is found in what Paul writes in 2 Thessalonians 2:10-11.
