What a great thing for debate, whether something is a real commandment, this type of commandment, or that.
Are there more in the new, and less in the old, would it mater when we are told what matters the most, and yes it is that Jesus showed all the law was magnified and made honourable, to not only not do the wrong things, but to not think them also, to have all summed up as loving God and our neighbour as ourselves.
The law and the prophets are are to do to others the same as we seek for ourselves. All comes down to one commandment, because to do or not do to those in need, is to do or not do to Christ.
The commandment of the Father is one, for the Son of God to show that love to lay HIs life down, and it is the law fulfilled, to love our neighbour as ourselves, as this is how God loves, to command life everlasting, and HIs Son had to give us and show us how this is.
Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the
law and the
prophets.
Matthew 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the
law and the
prophets.
John 12:50 And I know that his commandment is
life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
Galatians 5:14 For all the
law is
fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
