My understanding is that our sins are forgiven by confessing, repenting, and by faithfully attempting to obey all of the commandments of Jesus and our Heavenly Father.

1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Romans 5:1
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 7:21
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Theology can be tricky...and very divisive. You may enjoy discussing it because you want to understand the bigger picture. I believe that's true of all of us here. The challenge is that innumerable Christians here (and elsewhere) are absolutely convinced of their own perfect doctrinal understanding. They are filled with pride and love preaching to others but their problem, often times, is that they themselves are unwilling to be persuaded that perhaps their understanding is slightly off. Even the word of God won't budge them from their all-knowing pedestal. And while there are some discerned posters here, they rarely venture into theological discussions. You may recall Paul writing "and every fool will be arguing". Of course, I'm a "fool" too because I'm also in there arguing. Lol!

The good news is that nobody needs to be a theologian to enter Heaven. I believe that the following scriptures summarize what one needs to believe and do to enter Heaven. Feel free to pick my little pea-brain if you have any questions.

Matthew 22:36-40
Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

But I go to confessions all the time... My sin was forgiven back then nearly 2000 years ago but I still need to be forgiven all the time?

The Sin of having HAD non- belief, then “confessing” Heartful belief, IS the Sin the Lord God forgives…saves the soul, quickens (birth again, with Gods Seed), the mans natural spirit (ie. truth in his heart)…gives the man… Holy Spirit of (Gods) truth …
And that man Sins no more …

Only The Lord God forgives Sin.

Man wronging against man is a Trespass.
Men can, do, should forgive Trespasses.

Forgiveness does not mean, no negative consequence…

Our body’s, will, must, shall die.

Trespasses forgiven, can still have negative consequences.. the other may Sue you, not trust you, no longer associate with you, etc.

I do not repeatedly ask The Lord God For forgiveness.
He has already forgiven and cleansed, sanctified and justified that I belong only to Him.

I do not pray TO “Saints / or statues”.
I pray FOR “mortally living saints”…ie the saved and born again.

Hello and welcome....I know the Japanese people to be honest and honorable, to be admired for their ethics and adherence to principle.....but since the end of WW2, they have been in spiritual limbo. With the surrender of the Japanese Emperor, their “god” fell from grace, and left them in a spiritual void.....where to go from here? The devil was ready to take up the assignment....with a very different religion...but one that would require the kind of obedience to tradition that the Japanese people were accustomed to.

Many in Japan were open to a new god, one that would take them in and nurture them.....unfortunately the RCC has never had the reputation of being a nurturing environment for anyone, except perhaps the ones dining at the Pope’s table.....and even then they have to watch their attitude....which is one of complete submission to “the church” rather than “the Christ”.
In what direction is the current Pope taking the church?

How can you confirm that the doctrines of that church are actually the directives of Jesus Christ?

Have you confirmed them for yourself? There is a reason why the Catholic church rejects “sola scriptura”....the Bible itself argues with all of their teachings. None originate in Scripture, although it is claimed that they do. A study of the Bible will reveal the truth.

Without that redemption God may very well have seen it better to end civilization before it could start, due to his foreknowledge of the fall of man but that is speculation.

Paul also struggled with sin. He put living this life and running a race seriously and shedding hindrances Hebrews 12:1

I totally agree, but at this early stage in the discussion I was trying not to scare him off. I hope he will take note of what has been said and that the Holy Spirit will open his eyes to the true Gospel and that the RCC is nothing more than a man made cult. I think shinto-buddhism do say things similar to Christian Churches but that is only because the "natural law" part of our traditions are, naturally, the same.

But the crucial difference is the divine laws that we humans would not come up on our own. Such include preferential option for the poor, the greatest commandments that put God first and then our neighbors, and so forth.
