The willing of the soul and the desire of the “old man” are separate entities within the believer in Christ! With the unsaved, unregenerate soul they are coalesce in their operations. Those reborn do not will after the desires of sin nature. But the unbeliever, being bereft of the new nature and unconcerned for holiness, must will after the desire of the Adamic-nature—being yet under its “reign” and “dominion” (Ro 6:12, 14); and to willingly desire after the old man is where its dominion of sin lies, just as not to will after the desires of the old man is where freedom from sin’s dominion is dethroned (Rom 6:18, 22; 8:2).

In my opinion the old man “is” still restrained on the Cross of Christ (is being crucified – Ro 6:6 - KJV) and continues to be nullified from its ability to cause one to will after its desires. Therefore, sin is not the will of believers but the desire of their old man, which is demonstrated in Paul’s declaration, “Now then it is no more I (new I) that do it, but sin (old I) that dwelleth in me” (Rom 7:17, 20). “I am crucified with Christ” (am being crucified - Gal 2:20). The “I” here is the old nature of the believer—just as the new I is the implanted nature; both coexisting, with the latter being dominant by the Spirit (Rom 8:13; Gal 5:17; Eph 3:16).

The new nature is “after God created in righteousness and true holiness” (Eph 4:24) and “is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him” (or it - Col 3:10). This new nature after Christ is the “seed” in 1John 3:9, by which when the believer “cannot sin, because he is born of God” (i.e. cannot sin willfully). For, “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin,” i.e. sins not with the new nature, but with the old nature (Rom 7:25).

The absence of the will to desire after the old man has no effect on the Father’s forgiveness, which comes by the Blood of Christ, but rather manifests the “work in you” of the Father (Phil 2:13). It is only through the Cross of Christ “we have redemption through His Blood, even the forgiveness of sins” (Col 1:14 – KJV); which forgiveness derives from, not the believer’s walk but the Lord Jesus’ Cross! Let us be ever aware that continual “presumptuous” (Num 15:30) or “willful” (Heb 10:26) sin not only manifests unbelief, but is also unforgiven!

Outstanding. I see that you're an ordained pastor. This is a very good presentation . . . is there a chance that you can work into this document the Work of Christ that makes this article possible? Colossians 2:9-15 will put this body of work into full perspective.

Also, because the True Word of the Lord is considered foolishness to those who do not possess the Spirit, how can we create a more simplified, understandable version of what you've written above? You are very, very intelligent (so deep that few are likely to understand what you've written), but if we cannot simplify, messages such as these will continue to be ignored . . . and we cannot have that, since you possess so depth of Holy Wisdom. We must continue to do what Paul has done, which is unpack the Mysterious Plan, so that others would come to be Known by Christ. For the sake of simplicity, here is what makes the entire Plan possible, for without the below 7 verses, the Mysterious Plan of God is impossible.

Colossians 2:9-15 NLT - "For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. 11 When you came to Christ, you were "circumcised," but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision--the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. 13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross."

Having scoured the Bible verse by verse, and Holy Word by Holy Word with multiple highlighters, forcing me to consider each verse, thought and Word . . . I have searched the entire Bible across many translations, and have found nothing to be more important, significant or meaningful that Colossians 2:9-15. Yet, I have yet to meet anyone that recognizes that this set of verses, are the utter Core, complete Bullseye of the entire Bible. Therefore, I am humbly asking that you would help me in spreading the Core of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, our Almighty, Powerful God of all that is.

Hi, and appreciate the compliments and your comments. I wanted you to know that I've never been a pastor but a teacher. I also think that presenting Col 2:9-15 by the New Living Translation clearly presents the concept of the sin nature still being in us, but we are not in it (Ro 8:9), i.e. after it, and more precisely, will never desire it again; and it is in the desire against the sin nature that God puts in the believer by instilling desire and ability for Him (Phil 2:13).

God's blessings to your Family!

the New Living Translation clearly presents the concept of the sin nature still being in us

Nice to meet you!

Hmmm . . . the KJV is my favorite translation because it so clearly documents the doctrine of Spiritual Circumcision. Check this out . . .

Colossians 2:11-13 KJV - "In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses . . ."

We know there is a Circumcision made without hands, which is a Spiritual Circumcision exclusive to the Holy Hands of Christ (the alternative, human circumcision would be the other Two Eleven, Ephesians 2:11, a circumcision made [with] human hands.) The body of the Sins of the Flesh is not a physical body, but the Spiritual Body of Satan, or, the Sinful Nature, or, the Curse of Adam and Eve as described in Romans 5). This text also, clearly, says that there is an "operation of God," which of course, is the removal of the Sin Nature, or, the Body of the Sins of the Flesh. Because of the Curse, the Sinful Mind of the Devil, we are Spiritually dead. Thus, Christ quickens together with Him, or, He removes this Evil Nature with His exclusive and Holy Hands, and takes that Evil Nature to the grave where it remains. And it is here that a person is lifted of the Mind of the Devil . . . for without this lifting of the Curse, there is no hope.

It is a struggle to think that we could be Purified, if the Mind of the Devil remains within us. This would absolutely defy the point and purpose of the Entire Bible.

Ezekiel 36:26 KJV - "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh."

Jesus, in Colossians 2:9-15, is actually doing what He said He would do in Ezekiel 36 and 11:19. This doctrine is so important, Christ instructs Ezekiel to say nearly the exact same thing twice in the same "Book."

Enjoy! Colossians 2:9-15 is the absolute Core of the entire Bible. Without it, there is no point and the Bible would continue to make absolutely no sense (to me).

You do great work! Looking forward to the future "work." :)

I should add that any translation will say the exact same things. I love all translations when it comes to the Mysterious Plan of God. The reason for this is that regardless of translation, that Plan remains. Why? Because it is hidden, and how can someone remove that which they cannot find? The Doctrine of Circumcision is reflective all throughout God's Holy Word . . . only the ultra-small Remnant are capable of seeing it.
