The USA does not need to take over Greenland: for Greenland has openly said that they would welcome a bigger American presence within their country, if that is desired; so it would be possible for America to provide the necessary security required to keep America safe without a take over.

Denmark is a member of NATO: so a move against Greenland, which is part of their territory, would destroy the NATO alliance; which is not in America's interest, any more than it would be for the other countries which are part of it. We need each other in the face of a possible Russian or Chinese threat.

Also inflicting further tariffs upon the countries which are part of NATO, in order to try to bend them to the President's will in this regard: is not the way to behave towards what are Allied Nations.

This is a bad move, and one which many within the USA will deplore: along with those of us who reside in the countries so affected.

That's the problem with NATO. It's basically the United States and some tag alongs. If Trump moves on Greenland, the alliance may be sacrificed for energy independence.

We'll see, but I suspect the alliance will crumble if a NATO member invades another. That being said, if Trump acquires Greenland using economic coercion, like tariffs, then the alliance will most likely survive. That's the best outcome for the United States.
