I have had my psychology friends tell me that the science of psychology is a dieing thing. They believe because it is based on human nature, which there is no such thing, and it cannot stand forever and has lost a lot of the understanding of the way you can approach it as a science. That came from those I know that are educated accredited trained professors with paperwork. Basically they are teachers, or were, retired now from a University. Some retired early to go into ministry and were able to meet more needs by listening to the Spirit, but still able to incorporate that knowledge into ministry.
Should be noted here that our very own Apostle Paul was the greatest psychologist that ever lived. That is a crude way to explain Paul and his understanding, but basically that is what you get with Paul when you take him in full spectrum. Paul leaves no stone unturned, he addresses every issue of life pertaining to life in the natural as well as the spiritual. If Paul gets taken as just ho-hum type of guy who seemed kind of arrogant (as I have heard him described) then believers are leaving themselves hopeless in the fact that if we will listen to Paul (follow me as I follow the Lord) you learn what makes a human being tick.
I'm going to use the word tick because do you know how intricate a watch is. I knew a high end watch dealer and learned more about watches listening to them. But what makes a person tick is psychology 101. You can learn a lot from psychology when psychology starts with truth. First the truth of psychology is there is no human nature. Humans have a nature but it was not derived on their own.
The proof in scripture is; we partake of a nature but it is not derived from the human beings creation.
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. - 2 Peter 1:4.
How was corruption escaped? by your nature.
Human nature or nature is not something that develops along the way. Nature is complete and received in full at one moment time. For Adam it was in the garden, he received the nature by disobeying the commandment. For the rest of humanity they were born with it passed on inherently. when human beings are born again they receive a new nature.
So what is happening in christianity is we have a new nature with an old mind and we try to make them compatible. That will never happen, the mind has to be renewed or you might as well have a saint that never received salvation, other than heaven. And that is good for a lot of people but for those that are hungry and those that want to know they will have to make changes in mind or it will not happen. No matter how hungry you are there will be no change in mind until the deep conclusions that can only be brought on by the Holyspirit, called revelation. Bless you.
