Taiwan saying they won't allow the US to destroy their industry, even if invaded by China.

Excerpt
Here's a selection of the document entitled Broken Nest: Deterring China from Invading Taiwan:

To start, the United States and Taiwan should lay plans for a targeted scorched-earth strategy that would render Taiwan not just unattractive if ever seized by force, but positively costly to maintain. This could be done most effectively by threatening to destroy facilities belonging to the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the most important chipmaker in the world and China’s most important supplier. Samsung based in South Korea (a US ally) is the only alternative for cutting-edge designs.

Robert O’Brien, who served as President Trump’s national security advisor, recently called for bombing Taiwan’s factories if China attacks.

"The United States and its allies are never going to let those factories fall into Chinese hands," O’Brien told Semafor in March.

Matthew 24
21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.

Nukes maybe?

Even if China invaded and conquered Taiwan intact, they wouldn't be able to make the high end microchips that Taiwan makes. The pieces/parts necessary to make those chips come from several other sources outside of Taiwan. Cut just one of those sources out and those chips cannot be made. Besides that, China doesn't have the technical know-how to run the machinery, etc. The best they can do is low to medium end microchips. We design most of the high end stuff anyway. I doubt we would be helping out China if they took over Taiwan.

There has been a SEVERE shortage of chips for new cars already. There are almost no new cars on the lots here!

Correct! Over the next few years, we will need to reshore or close-shore most, if not all, of the .manufacturing we sent overseas as part of globalization. We actually started globalization after WWII as a sort of bribe to get the world to side with us against the Soviet Union. We promised to protect all shipping and commerce on the high seas for these countries. After the Soviet Union fell, we have become less and less interested (and capable) of patrolling the high seas to protect global shipping.

The best way to protect Taiwan would be for the USA to make Taiwan its 51st state.

president clinton shut down US manufacturing converting the US into a service economy. All the 'dirty industries' would be offshored.

There was at that time, if I recall, an erroneous line of thought that if we helped China to become prosperous, they would lean further away from Communism and towards democracy, as well as being on our side against Russia. What a mistake that was! They took everything they could steal of our technology, spied on us, corrupted many of our government officials by buying them off, and grew their military with the extra money they made manufacturing things.

I'll continue to say. China is easy to defeat. Question becomes, is the world ready for the chaos?

China and Engineering firms have studied the Three Gorges Dam System. China made a serious blunder in the design and what they attempted to achieve. The weight of the backwater and silt collecting against the dam, cause earthquakes in a region susceptable to earthquakes. The dam itself has bowed. China made an attempt to strengthen the dam.

One cruise missile would kill millions of Chinese. One cruise missile would put every major city along the river deep under water. The entire manufacturing sector of China ruined overnight. There would be no need for semiconductors until the mess is cleaned up. Indian, Viet Nam and Indonesia would take over the manufacturing......

The question becomes .......John McCain said it best ......Anthony Binken is not smart enough to be Secretary of Anything. Blinken has fouled up everything he has touched. Just like his boss.

I say that because Blinken and Austin are too stupid to run a military campaign against China.

All it would take to do China in is sink one or two oil vessels coming from the Middle East. China imports about 85% of its energy and almost as much of its food. The oil tankers will not run if they are not insured. Sinking one or two will make them uninsurable. Without energy, China de-industrializes within a very short time (less than six months in my guess), and famine will ensue. As it is, if nothing else changes, China's population will be about half what it is by 2050, if not sooner. The one-child policy doomed them demographically, and there is absolutely no way they can recover. So, even if they don't go to war, China as we know it won't exist in 2030. The demographic problem, by itself, will do them in.

And they are no longer (and haven't been for a while!) the low cost producer of goods. Their labor costs have risen about 11-12 times what they were when they begin industrializing. Plus, they don't have the know how to manufacture the high end microchips.

When I think about it, I don't know how to make high end microchips either. The technology we depend on today, cannot be created except by a very few people who stand on the shoulders of many researchers that preceded them. We are always on the edge of a knife, to fall back into the stone age if that ability ceases to exist in just a few years.

Elon Musk said where are the Chinese going to find 750 million people over the next 40 years...to keep servicing their ageing population and the economy. There is a depopulation bomb going to hit many countries unless people start having more kids. Who is going to care for the elderly, if the upcoming generations just do not exist in the numbers required to keep civilization going.

The WEF says technology will keep the elites and important people alive, and the vast majority of populations are no longer needed or wanted and they must die.

Well, the U.S. has the know-how to make high end microchips. The real problem, though, is that the really high end microchips require a supply chain of several different parts that come from different countries. Cut one part out, and the entire process cannot happen. What needs to happen, if we can get the government to get their heads out of you-know-where, is that we need to reshore all this stuff. Or at least close-shore (Canada, Mexico, etc.). I think in the long term, that's the right play. It will take several years to do that, however, and ideally, this process would have started about 5 years ago or longer.
