What do we need to wait on the Lord for? For Him to deliver us from all our transgressions (Ps 39:7-8); so that we can go on to serve others by love. (Gal 5:13) We can only wait upon the Lord in His strength if He is to be our defense. (Ps 59:9) Are you pouring your heart out before Him? Then you are waiting upon God to work His expectations in you (Ps 62:8 & 5); and out of you. (Jn 3:21) This is how He shows His mercy. (Ps 62:12) This mercy is also shown as calling sinners to repentance so that they would no longer be sick. (Matt 9:13-12) Help me to wait upon you so that I might be given what I need (from You) in due season. (104:27) Through this waiting on the Lord we can be strengthened to run (the race) and not get wearied. (Is 40:31) We cannot run the race with patience unless we are being chastened by the Lord so that we might be strengthened to lay aside the weight (of sin) as we look unto Jesus who is both the author and finisher of our faith. (Heb 12:1-2, 5-6) This chastening is also known as God’s instruction. (Jer 31:19) This chastening is grievous for a time but God promises to bring out the peaceable fruit of righteousness in those who are exercised by it (12:11) which hope we are given (by this instruction) is that we can be made righteous and loving by faith. (Gal 5:5-6) We need to be freed by Christ first, from the bondage of sin so that we can go on to patiently wait through the Spirit for the righteous and loving ability (5:1 & 5-6); so that we can serve others by love. (5:13) The freedom from the bondage of sin comes through the laying of the foundation of repentant faith so that we might be permitted by God to go on to (Christian) perfection (Heb 6:1-3); which is the ability to love. (Col 3:14 and Gal 5:13) This is the good that the Lord (works in us, see Eph 2:8-10) as we seek Him (in His word) in this patient wait.(Lam 3:25-26) We can only have the patience to wait upon God if we have this hope which is not seen. (Rom 8:25-24) Let us ask the Lord to give us this hope with the patience to wait for it so that we may possess our souls (Lk 21:19); in the honor of sanctification (1Thess 4:4); which is not into lusts. (4:5) Those who are under the condemnation of loving darkness rather than the light (of this knowledge see 2Cor 4:6) are practicing evil deeds. (Jn 3:19) Without asking God to do this work in us (Eph 2:8-10); we will be in the condemnation, (of loving darkness now that the light has come) no matter what we believe. For we have been called to live holy (4:7) meaning have this understanding (Prov 9:10) ; without which we cannot be converted and healed. (Matt 13:15,Jn 12:40, Acts 28:27)
