Catholics like to use the excuse of "church tradition" to justify support of many of their Catholic beliefs.

Funny, because was not what Paul said a "church tradition?"

I guess people get to pick and choose which tradition is right or wrong....

[size="+1"]Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I have delivered them to you. 1[/size] Corinthians 11:1-2

And just what - specifically - were the list of 'traditions' that that were delivered?

1 Corinthians 11

[sup]1[/sup] Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. [sup]2[/sup] I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the traditions just as I passed them on to you. [sup]3[/sup] But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man,[sup][a][/sup] and the head of Christ is God. [sup]4[/sup] Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. [sup]5[/sup] But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. [sup]6[/sup] For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head.
[sup]7[/sup] A man ought not to cover his head,[sup][b][/sup] since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. [sup]8[/sup] For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; [sup]9[/sup] neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. [sup]10[/sup] It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own[sup][c][/sup] head, because of the angels. [sup]11[/sup] Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. [sup]12[/sup] For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.
[sup]13[/sup] Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? [sup]14[/sup] Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, [sup]15[/sup] but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. [sup]16[/sup] If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.

There are three important parts of this scripture that are important to the conversation:

1. The leaders of the church of Corinth are turning to Paul as an authority - this concept is considered an example of consulting "Church Tradition"

2. Paul tells the church to follow his example as he follows Christ's example. We are called to do the same thing by following the examples of the Church who follow Christ's example.

3. Paul gives advice for the church of Corinth concerning the manner in which they should present themselves in worship. In this example, Paul speaks to the church about a cultural issue concerning social norms of the day involving head covering. The principle still stands today - recently, a boy approached my priest with a marilyn manson shirt on, which as you can imagine was graphic and blasphemous - the priest did not hesitate to offer him the Eucharist. In the priest's position, unless God spoke to me, I would have blessed the boy rather than offer him the Eucharist. I believe I would be correct in doing this based on this verse and common sense.
