I was reading the Bible this morning and thinking about just why I read it more than any other writings -- by far. I read Scripture every day because it fills me spiritually. Then I came up with this comparison: it is like watering a garden.
Every time I read God's word it nourishes me spiritually, just as plants are nourished by water. Ephesians 5:25-27 is the verse that comes to mind: "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her in order to make her holy by cleansing her with the washing of water by the word, so as to present the church to himself in splendor, without a spot or wrinkle or anything of the kind, so that she may be holy and without blemish."
Something definitely happens to me when I read the Bible. The experience is unlike anything else. It is as though my spirit gets nourished by God.
What are your thoughts? Do you experience something similar?
