Lately I found some real crazy "Christian" music on the internet.
Sounds more like rap or heavy metal.
Surely not inspired by the Holy Spirit.

On the other hand when the music department does a good job praising & setting the atmosphere but if God doesn't talk then it's just Christian entertainment.

It comes from the same place most of the good old Christian hymns you love came from. None of your favorite hymns are from the original "songs" Peter and Paul sang. They were all "Crazy, New Fangled Stuff" to the older Christians when the younger songwriters wrote them.

If that's not bad enough, they also have to give it a beat and make is sound ? rhythm, beat, etc.......
in other words you're not paying attention to the word,

Even at church this happens.... not good...........!

I find myself chuckling. There were no instruments, at all, accompanying the "original" music. Yet some people think the CoC insisting on 'a Capella' singing is somehow strange.

Colossians 3:23-25 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Whatever you do...... includes making music.

I don't really see a problem with Christian entertainment. I've known people who came to Christ because of Christian rock music. Like WillieT pointed out, a lot of the hymns that everyone thinks are so holy used music that came from old bar tunes.

As for whether Christian music should have instruments and a beat:

Ps 150:3 Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre.
Ps 150:4 Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe.
Ps 150:5 Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with resounding cymbals.

Just because the NT doesn't mention any instruments other than harps doesn't mean God changed His mind and stopped liking them. :)

Neither do I.

But on sunday I prefer Holy Spirit inspired music.

I don't need to be entertained in church.
For entertainment I can go anywhere or stay home and play CDs.
I agree. But different people have their hearts opened in different ways, so thank the Lord we have many different types of churches and worship.

As long as the beat has no affect !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My son whom I now live with......... played the drums in school, won all kinds of awards .........!

This is all before we became saved........ He also tried to join different bands....... some thing was just not right....... for him.

And he was always selected and the top of all that tried out...... He could have been rich now !

But gave up the drums ................................. the beat just hit him after getting saved.....I guess he seen to much ???????

And now he is teaching his children the bible and they are really learning , ...........

Now watching movies we skip a lot of mad stuff......... people just do not understand , a little here a little there [ Junk ]

We tend to get used to after a while......... Now I can see the grand children how they look away and change things......... AMEN!!!!!!!

Here's my take on this:

The music you hear in church represents the spiritual condition of that church.
We are what we listen to.

There are three kinds of music:

1. Of satan, by satan, for satan.
2. Of God, by God, for God.
3. Of man, by man, for man

All music you hear goes directly to your spirit.
Good and bad music.

When the doctrine is right, the music will be right.

Hymns portray biblical doctrine.
Hymns are a way of preaching.

Evaluate the music you hear:
1. The music.
2. The people playing it.
3. The message in the songs.
4. The presentation, such as the clothing, etc.

I for got to mention one thing about my son trying to have a band and or joining a musical band.

They all seemed to be into drugs of some kind...... and things he did not mention I presume.........

I guess he would rather be poor with the 8 children , and following GODS word.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a beat, rhythm, or instrument, guys, but the intent behind them. And if you think otherwise, you're just living in fear, which is not of God (2 Tim. 1:7). Everything the devil uses is nothing but a counterfeit of the things of God. The devil is not a creator. He is only a counterfeiter of things God created. God created music, and He loves it. So the issue is not the music, itself, but the intent behind the music. You can use drums to glorify the devil, yourself, or God. If someone is playing drums with all of their heart to the glory of God, then God will be pleased with it and move in it.

If you don't throw the Old Testament out, the Bible mentions many different types of instruments being used to praise God, including things that make beats and rhythms. You can judge a tree by its fruit, but you can't judge a people's hearts for worship only by the type of instrument they're playing. If it's being used to glorify God, it's a good thing.

And another thing: you can't judge someone's heart of worship only by your personal preference of music style, either. What is relevant to you may not be relevant to someone else. I've seen churches where they play modern worship music, and the Holy Spirit moves heavily on people's hearts. I've seen other churches that play modern worship music, and the people worship God, but when an old hymn is pulled out, those same people are on their faces at the altar weeping before the Lord. God can use any of these styles of worship according to whatever it will take to get through to the people at hand. So we need to stop judging based on personal music preferences because what works for you will not work for everyone. Thank God we are the Body of Christ, and we don't all have to be the same.
