Since Judas is dead!

Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

who is the eleven or the eleventh apostle?

The eleven were the remaining apostles, including Peter. They all stood up. Peter spoke up.

The List;
Acts 1:
[13] And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both ..

Listed 2 through 12

You wonder about the 11th, which is revealed is Simon Zelotes.

2)Peter, and
3)James, and
4)John, and
5)Andrew,
6) Philip, and
7) Thomas,
8) Bartholomew, and
9) Matthew,
10) James the son of Alphaeus, and
11) Simon Zelotes, and
12) Judas the brother of James.

You over looked the FIRST ... the Promise of the Father.

Acts 1:
[4] And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Acts 2
[3] And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

^ That is the First, followed by the eleven identified by name.

You mean "Who is the 12th?" You might want to correct your title. And the 12th is obviously the apostle Paul.

paul was not even called until acts 9 this was acts 2

peter and the eleven!

acts 1:26 Mathias is the successor of Judas!

Paul was an apostle to the Gentiles (Rom 11:13) An apostle being: One that goes out into the world – teaches God’s word, casts out devil spirits, raises the dead, establishes churches…. brings new light to a dark nation.

But Matthias was the 12th apostle …the criteria being → Act 1:20-22

Act 1:25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

Act 1:26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles

The only problem is that Matthias was not chosen by God but by the apostles. On the other hand Paul was specifically chosen by God and Christ. Therefore Matthias is never heard from in the rest of the NT, whereas Paul wrote over half the New Testament, and established numerous churches.

I agree…. from our vantage point... Paul would be the likely candidate …then again, we are not God.

Matthias most likely was sent out with the 70, since he was a disciple…and he tagged along with Jesus from the beginning….I don’t think we can throw his bishoprick out because of the timing of his apostleship and just because nothing is mentioned of him …There were others of whom nothing is recorded like Thomas, Simon Zelotes, Bartholomew (Nathanael), Andrew, and Philip the apostle, (not Philip one of the 7)….We just don’t know what any of those mentioned accomplished.

As far as being selected by God I don't know what more could be expected than what they did..... Act 1:24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

Here is some food for thought….

If Judas hung himself as per Mat 27:5…Wouldn’t Jesus be the likely person to select a replacement for Judas in the 40 days he was around…. And if He (Jesus) did not find it necessary to replace Judas ....why would the Apostles deem it necessary?

Actually, the Word declares that Judas was around until the ascension …I just thought I would throw that out there.

the apostles have the same power, mission, ministry, and authority as Christ!

Jn 20:21-23

if Christ has authority to appoint apostles then the apostles have the same authority!

peter plus eleven or 12th either way

You want all their names?:
(Matthew 10:2-4) . . .The names of the 12 apostles are these: First, Simon, the one called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebʹe·dee and John his brother; 3 Philip and Bar·tholʹo·mew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Al·phaeʹus; and Thad·daeʹus; 4 Simon the Ca·na·naeʹan; and Judas Is·carʹi·ot, who later betrayed him.

Matthias replaced Judas after he betrayed Jesus.
