For the last 400 years or so, scientists have sought to understand God’s creation in terms of all-encompassing, elegant mathematical theories. They have succeeded to a large extent in physical theories. For example, the Standard Model of particle physics combines an understanding of all elementary particle exchange interactions in terms of three of the four known forces. Additionally, the Newton-Einstein theory of gravity is self-consistent and extremely accurate. However, there is still no known way to unify these theories, despite decades of effort.
What physicists may be facing is that there is no unifying theory because there is no mathematically unified design—only a unifying designer.
As an analogy, consider a motor vehicle such as the first Ford or the modern Tesla. The overall design for each grew out of some basic principles of the designer, which were then realized in various factors: for example, ease of transportation and comfort of those being transported. In other words: the ultimate goal was to make the product affordable and attractive to large customer base.
Is God’s design of the universe a reasonable analogy? God has created an environment in which we can survive, thrive, and engender future generations, albeit with His assistance and much hard work. But this environment is also wonderful and beautiful to behold: sights, sounds, tastes, . . ., as many in the forum have shown. The Bible yields a glimpse of God’s intended purposes, but perhaps there is more, and a complete understanding is beyond us. It may be that God’s creation cannot be expressed in a single unifying mathematical theory.
