Lets get back to this, brethren, thanks.
Fred, you ignored what the Keys of the Kingdom truly are.

Revelation 1:18 (ESV) “I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades (grave).”

Revelation 3:7 (ESV) “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:

‘The words of the holy one, the true one,
who has the key of David,
who opens and no one will shut,
who shuts and no one opens
.’”

The Gospel is the Power of God unto Salvation for all who have access to the Key of David.

Why is it called the Key of David?

Why "Key of David"?
It symbolizes Jesus as the Messianic King who alone opens the door to eternal salvation. Just as Eliakim controlled access to David’s palace, Christ controls access to Heaven itself. The Gospel’s power flows from His authority as David’s heir—the One who unlocks God’s promises for humanity.

Close sober...real close!!

You just have the wrong destination...

To hold the key to a building is to have rightful access to it and the authority to open it to others. In Zechariah 12:8, the community of the elect is referred to as the "house of David," and it is the Lord who governs entry into it. The "Key of David" therefore symbolizes authority over the Kingdom of David, past and future, which is also the Kingdom of God on earth (Isa. 22:22; 1 Chron. 29:11, 23; Luke 1:32–33; Acts 15:14–16).

Since David prefigures Christ (Jer. 30:9; Ezek. 34:23; 37:24), the "house of David" represents the elect of that future kingdom (2 Sam. 7:11, 16; Ps. 122:5; Isa. 55:3).

@soberxp keep this in mind also...

"Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day." Acts 2:2:29

My point is- He had a ministry to fulfill. Had they known beforehand they would have tried to make that more difficult. We know that Jesus knew ultimately what they would do, but He also knew they would have been a hindrance to His ministry - which is the only reason why He didn't want them to know. I assumed you knew what I was referring to..
Yes. If His identity had been known at the beginning of His ministry, the controversy, debates, and conflict that would have engendered would have made His ministry impossible. Several factions were vying for supremacy. Zealots, Pharisees, Romans, and all the puppets in the political arena such as Herod. All of whom would have been extremely interested if there was someone with power claiming to be a king.
As it was, this request from Jesus was later in His ministry, and immediately after began to prepare His disciples for His coming death. But with His history, and the widespread knowledge of the miracles and popularity that His ministry brought, a general acceptance of His Messiahship, would have brought great confusion, even among the disciples, as to what He was really all about. It would have been difficult for Jesus to convince anyone that a seat on a throne was the last thing He wanted.

Read my #39,

The 'key' am referring to is according to the tread topic in Matthew 16: 13-20, it is not written as 'key' in the passage.

But am testifying there's someone in the same passage, figuratively speaking have the 'key', to lock' or 'unlock' the minds of the Israelites.

Whether to recognize Jesus as the 'Messiah' or not, since we also perceive, only a remnant of them were saved by grace by the will of GOD.

Who is that someone?

And why Jesus forbid His disciples not to inform the public He's the Messiah, will get to that later.

Thank you

Fred,

“Simon Peter answered” He had previously made a similar declaration, calling Jesus “the Holy One of God” (Greek) in John 6:69, following the feeding of the 5,000. Other comparable confessions include John 1:41, 49 and Matthew 14:33.
  • Yet none of those earlier confessions received the same strong commendation from Jesus - why?
  • Because this moment came when such a confession seemed least likely, humanly speaking.
  • Jesus was now at the furthest point from Jerusalem.
  • He had just rejected kingship when the people tried to force it on him (John 6:15).
  • He had declined to give a sign from heaven (Matthew 16:4).
  • His popularity was at its lowest point.
Peter’s words - “You are the Christ” - carried full recognition of his divine mission.

“Son of the Living God” A profound confession from a Jew, given the serious implications they understood. See John 10:29–36, where Jesus refers to this title and its meaning. The phrase “Living God” also connects with God actively working through His household (1 Timothy 3:15).

Why "Key of David"?
Luke 1:
32. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord GOD shall give unto Him the throne of His father David:
33. And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His Kingdom there shall be no end.

This is the 'Key of David', Jesus now holds as Lord of lords and King of kings, to reign over the house of Jacob for ever.

And where we Gentiles believers fit in all of this?

Remember, once we've been the 'wild olive tree branches' of the house of Gentiles in the world and alienated.

And when we believed and received Jesus as the Christ and the Gospel.

GOD then cut us off from that alienated tree and grafted us to the 'cultivated olive tree of the house of Jacob', planted and cultivated by GOD.

So, we're adopted children and coheirs with the house Jacob, where Jesus as Lord of lords and King of kings shall reign over us the house of Jacob for ever.

Shalom in the name of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 16:
17. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but My FATHER which is in Heaven.

Matthew 13:
11. He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but to them it is not given.
(vs. 11-17)

Apparently, GOD the FATHER holds the 'key', to 'lock' or 'unlock' people's understanding and works from behind the scene, note the word, 'given'..

Moreover, we're saved by grace and through faith the gift of GOD, to believe and receive Jesus as the Messiah and His teaching/word in the Holy Bible.

And Jesus only proclaim the Gospel of repentance and baptism, and the teachings pertaining to the Kingdom of GOD in Heaven.

Therefore, true disciples are made by those sent and guided by the FATHER HIMSELF, for they'll 'see' and 'hear', and learn thoroughly. (2 Timothy 3: 16&17)

Shalom in the name of Jesus Christ

Matthew 16:
20. Then charged He His disciples that they should tell no man that He was Jesus the Christ.

Looks like Jesus in other words charging His disciples that it is not necessary for them to tell any man that He's the Christ.

Since based on the passage the controversy, those who don't and those who do, for if the FATHER will, they'll know for themselves and guided.

For example, it is 'folly' to expect or force a blind man see what you see, and isn't it like the blind leading the blind and soon they are going to fall into a ditch?

Even in the case of Nicodemus, Jesus did not sit down and school him about 'born again', but rather perceived the FATHER has not worked in him.

And moreover, He had also refer to the Sanhedrin council members as 'blind guides'.

Likewise witness John ch. 3, how Jesus corrected Nicodemus for being figuratively speaking, 'blind', as a leader and teacher for Israel.
