Anyone who has been a Christian more than a few days has suffered. Sometimes we suffer for what we have sown. Sometimes we suffer for the sins of others and sometimes we suffer for what appears to be no reason at all. When hardship or suffering rears it's head in our lives let us keep this in mind:

Heb 12:1-12
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

Be encouraged and thank God in your trials, affliction and pain. God receives glory from such. This present life is the only opportunity we will have to praise God in affliction. Let us make the best of it.

Jas 5:10-11 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

Why do the righteous suffer?

Because the Righteous live in a world, whereby the majority are NOT -Righteous …
Which are the Same… that could be…
Parents, Friends, Spouses, Employers, Neighbors, Teachers, kings, Celebrities…that which have a daily “connection” with the Righteous.

Glory to God,

The Bible says we learn obedience through suffering.

I got to know that first hand and grew stronger in my faith.

It depends what you mean by suffering. I think all creation is suffering under the weight of the fall. Basically life is reducing that suffering. People go about it in different ways. Many seek instant gratification to aleviate the suffering. As humans we know that sometimes we have to suffer discomfort or pain to achieve a worthy aim. All that glitters is not gold.

I think Gods kingdom on earth is seeking treasures in heaven that this world thinks foolish compared to tangible and instant returns. In some ways Christians suffer in sacrificing the comforts of this world for heavenly treasures. To the world it seems we are missing out.

But Christ says those who suffer for His name will rejoice in such sacrifices. A true and deeper value of a greater life beyond this one. As though it can begin now and not when we pass. In fact we have to begin this journey now through this world and into the next.

Why do the righteous suffer?

As you mentioned we suffer for many reasons.

One reason is we battle against ... 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Those who we wrestle against are controlled by the Prince of Persia, Prince of Greece (Daniel 10:20) and the Divine Council (Psalm 82:1).
