why were old testament prophets hated?

Did you like someone bringing the Word of God to you before you received Christ?
The prophets are those who brought the Word that sinful man does not want to hear because they like their dark deeds.
John 17:14
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

If you are truly teaching the Word of Truth, you will be hated. If all MEN love you, then you are not really teaching the Word of Truth but the smooth things that tickle the ears of ungodly man.

Exactly! Those who do not like the truth aka The Word of God are deceived for they are anti-Christ.. anti-Word. That is why there are many anti-Christ's in the world for not many can ACCEPT the Word as TRUTH to live by. It is not the name Jesus that men hate, it is the name THE WORD that demons hate because they get evicted from the bodies they have attached themselves to and get tossed out into a herd of pigs or cast back into the sea of humanity when we preach in the name of the Word, that is above every NAME. I don't think they were hated as much as they were feared since they tended to herald the very words of God. This required some form of change on their part or endure a penalty for their disobedience....
Feared them because they Brought the Word of God to their ears. From these verses it shows they killed the prophets, sounds like HATE to me.
Matt 23:30-34
30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

If a protesant prophet walked the earth today,the catholics would have him killed or incarcerated

yes, I think hatred is a result of fear and anger and violence is our reaction to feelings of hatred. i believe the prophets were hated because they were critical of God's leaders. we respond the same way towards critics of the church today, but we justify it by hiding behind Jesus's words regarding persecution.
profits what was there main job the same job pastors have to day.. to tell the people of the good news they have in Jesus ..
