Do these 4 say the same thing?
Luke 16:18
"Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and he who marries a divorced woman commits adultery"
---
Mark 10:10-12
In the house His disciples also asked Him again about the same matter. So He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
MATTHEW 5:32
but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
1 Cor 7:10-11
To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. / But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.
Luke, Mark, 1 Cor are very clear to me.---
Marriage only ends at death in God's eyes-
- all remarriage while spouse is living is adultery.
Luke------ EVERYONE (any man) who divorces his wife is an adulterer if he remarries while she is still living.
AND - if the wife remarries- her husband is now made an adulterer.
Same with 1 Cor-
but Matthew adds the exception-and is seems it speaks only to her- ?
--Matthew is confusing to me now -
Matthew- Do not divorce her unless she cheats on you- ok
Otherwise, if she didn't cheat on him--- he makes her commit adultery if he divorces her and she remarries.. and her new husband is now made into an adulterer. -
--To God the first couple is still married---
but-
If she did cheat on him- then she already is the adulterer- and should not remarry.. (?) agree?
Where does this speak to the 1st husband?
What if he if he was the adulterer? Wife wants divorce?
Is she free to remarry?
What if the cheating spouse asked for forgiveness and was refused a reconciliation?
What is this saying?
The innocent one is free to remarry- but the offender is not?
Luke and Mark are easy to understand. - stay married-
Matthew- not so much.. the exception makes it messy.
Who gets it?
I think? DO NOT remarry if you divorce- seek to reconcile if possible. BUT
if adultery ends the marriage- only the victim of the adultery may remarry---?
If a reconciliation was refused- idk.. Apparently, we are under no obligation to forgive that..
Anyone agree with this?
It was simpler without the exception... but seems fair.
