I saw this on my Twitter / X feed this evening and thought it would be an interesting topic to discuss here.

What are those verses for you?”

There are over 900 different English translations of the scriptures to date.

I skip on and keep scrolling for something that interests me.

English translations published prior to 1611 are of particular interest to me.

Face it, most bibles are overpriced now. I used to buy nice leather bibles for $25. The older bibles had better paper. These translations are so close now, it almost doesn't matter. I have an app on my iPad that compares most of them at the same time and all of them are close.

But because the translations we can buy are "close" does not mean that the context they present is in agreement with the "original" texts from which they were translated even if the "context" within the available translations is close to each other.
