When I first became a member of the church, it was like living in another culture, another world. There was so much to learn and understand about the things of God. Jesus revealed himself to me many times in my childhood but I hardly knew anything about him accept that he was good and kind and saved me from death many times but I knew very little about his word or about who he was or anything about him as a follower of Christ
There was a time when the buzz word around my church with the young people was "ministry" and what they believed, was their ministry or calling from God. Some believed that they were called to the mission fields while others, prayer, counselling and deliverance, evangelism, healing, helps, some serving within the church etc. All were such high and lofty calls from God and I was curious about mine...
One day, I approached a guy from our church and asked him what my ministry was? He told me that he didn't know and I needed to ask God about it.
So I did. I asked God every day for months.
Finally, I heard the Lord God speak to me and he told me that my ministry was to "listen to his voice and obey his will".
That seemed so awfully dull (and yes I said to him in no uncertain terms) Compared to others, my ministry appeared to lack lustre.
He was very kind and patient with me and there was a small space of silence before he replied again. He asked me to name all the Christian leaders of that time, that inspired me. People of God that I looked up to. I mentioned a few names i.e: Billy Graham, Derek Prince, Jack Hayford. All God's children at that time, who influenced me in a positive way, as a follower of Christ.
Then he asked," what do they do?" I replied, that they save souls, raise the dead, cast out demons, healing people. Then Lord God asked me the same question again? I became a bit confused so I said again "Well they save souls, they raise the dead....
Suddenly, a vision appeared in front of me. In this vision there was a man of God and he was walking up and down a line of people who seemed to be at the front of a church service. This man of God was passing people down a row and I could hear the Holy Spirit talking to him. The Holy Spirit was saying "yes lay hands on this person, no not this one, go to the next person. He got to the end of the row when I heard the Holy Spirit say to the man of God. "See the women in the third aisle up, on the left, she has a red dress on. Call her down here, I want to heal her today."
Just as suddenly, that vision ended. The the lord God asked me again, "what do they do" and before I could answer, the Lord God said, "They listen to my voice, they obey my will, you go and do the same. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you."
