Luke 14:26 - "If any man come to me and hate not...he cannot be My disciple."

There is a difference between devotion to a Person and devotion to principles or to a cause.
Our Lord never proclaimed a cause; He proclaimed personal devotion to Himself.

Men pour themselves into creeds, and God has to blast them out of their prejudices before they can become devoted to Jesus Christ. To be a disciple is to be a devoted love-slave of the Lord Jesus.

Many who call themselves Christian are not devoted to Jesus Christ. No man on earth has this passionate love to the Lord Jesus unless the Holy Spirit has imparted it to him. We may admire Him, we may respect Him and reverence Him, but we cannot love Him.
The only Lover of the Lord Jesus is the Holy Spirit, and He shed abroad the very love of God in our hearts.

The Word of God is quick and powerful and has life (Hebrews 4:12). But when a person receives the Word solely with his mind, he will not experience the power and the life in God's Word. The avenue of the Holy Spirit into your spirit is through affirmation and meditation of the Word which in time and persistence produces revelation.

Without the Spirit of God, the Word is no more than a dead letter.

The most perilous situation in the church today is that so many of its leaders are in high places because of their natural talents, rather than their spirituality.

A dividing of the soul and spirit (Hebrews 4:12) is exceedingly essential, since it concerns spiritual growth. Why? Because a Christian cannot seek that which is spiritual if he does not even know the distinctions between what is of the spirit and what is of the soul.

Hebrews 4:12 - "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
