Recently someone asked about the key of David which brought back memories of how God first intervened in my life. I'm hopeful we all have had personal moments where odd things, unexplainable moments take place. Maybe we hesitate in calling it a conversation with God where He answers...this was one of those. My memory was shot. Because of an illness I had forgotten how to drive across town to my mother-in-laws home where I had been countless times. In fact at one point we had lived in the old homeplace my husband grew up in which was right down the road from their new home. I would lay awake at night and mentally drive to familiar stores and neighborhoods I had been to and could not remember how to get there. It is an terrifying feeling to have gaps and forget things which used to be concrete. Most days I forgot where I left my keys, so memorizing scripture was not even on my radar. But one night, late, passages came up with no effort. Like a storm that would not shut off or get quiet. So much so that the entire night was filled with the word repeating nonstop, one after another; parables spoken by the Lord. Along with the parables and passages He kept repeating, "Do you know My voice." Over and over followed by spoken words out of scripture. It was stern but loving in the repeating of "Do you know My voice," as if leading to some important conclusion. The asking until it was clear that the voice I had been assigning to Him did not belong. The sorting out of a voice the world had said was His voice which didn't line up at all with the voice of the shepherd. The parables begin to open and make sense, things I had asked fell into place, and as they did, His voice aligned with "I am the key that opens." No more "Do you know my voice." but instead the repeating of the explanation of, "I am the key which opens."
Weird? Yes, it is weird. I have a hard time with what is my subconscious or truly God speaking. I'd almost forgotten about that night until someone asked about the key. I wouldn't bet my life on the above but I do know that the voice I once assigned to the Lord as an all- ways-condemning voice of a displeased Father… has changed. His voice is no longer condemning but more loving then I could imagine on my own. It has to be Him. I'm sorry for that long explanation but I wanted you to know why 'the key' is important to me in more ways than one.
The Key: "I am the Key which opens." Christ. Spirit. How many times is it repeated "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." ? Hear what the Spirit says. The Key of David. Isaiah 22:22-25 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. [23] And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house. [24] And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons. [25] In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the Lord hath spoken it
"...and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off." In the Revelation of Jesus Christ, He says, "I am he that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore." The burden that was upon it shall be cut off...the insurmountable burden of the flesh unto Life in the Spirit. In Christ whom says His burden is light. Now consider "the key of David" was dead but behold "He lives" having the power over life and death and the power to set free. Too many scriptures but we know Him was the door, as the ONLY way to life. He is the truth. The only truth which counts. "Jesus and Jesus crucified." Unless a seed dies, there can be no fruit unto life everlasting. The 'seed of David' and "the seed of David crucified," whom God raised from the dead. From death unto Life: Spirit. The 'seed of David' is Spirit through Christ and Him crucified." No longer dead but alive evermore.
Revelation 3:6-9
[6] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. [7] And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; [8] I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. [9] Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. --compare this with Isaiah 22:22-25 "And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open."
He carried the key of the house of David upon his shoulder...and has all power and authority...having the key. The burden was cut off... His burden is light. That insurmountable burden of the flesh was lifted off our shoulders and placed on His. "which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie..." Jews are those who are Jews inwardly, Spiritually… not outwardly in that which can be corrupted (1 Peter 3:4) but in that which is not corruptible "let it be the hidden man of the heart".
Matthew 16:17-19
[17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. [18] And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ not given of man but of God. Revealed Spiritually to the "Hidden man of the heart'. On this "the Revelation of Jesus Christ" given by God and not man God said He would build His church and "I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven." --The key of David. Christ. Spirit. Knowledge of Him is the Key that opens unto life in the kingdom of Heaven. "I am the way and the Life," the Lord says.
Acts 13:27-30
[27] For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him . [28] And though they found no cause of death in him , yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain. Romans 16:25-27
[25] Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, [26] But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: [27] To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Galatians 1:11-12

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: Luke 11:52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

[13] But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves , neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. (remember when Jesus told them to suffer the little children to come to Him.)
The spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him..."Woe unto you, lawyers! for you have taken away the key of knowledge: You do not enter in yourselves, and them that were entering you prevented." What is the knowledge if not the Revelation of Jesus Christ man tried to prevent from being seen...the key given to the Church. That which opens what no man can open, and shuts what no man can shut. "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. [18] And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. God gives the key to enter in to knowledge of Jesus Christ … the way, the truth, and the Life. "No man comes to the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)
