I love to wonder about God's wonder

I wasn't sure what to call this thread or where to put it.
I was going to call it "my adventures blah blah blah"
But, i don't want it to be about me, so i changed the title to the wonder of God...

One way i love to experience Gods wonder is by closely observing nature. I have a particular love for birds, they just blow me away. Their are all different sizes and colours and types of wonderful birds down here in Australia and i feel blessed to see them...

But today i was confronted by an individual bird that blew me away and inspired me to start this thread...

First i was fishing off a pontoon, watching this other sea bird dive underwater of about 30 seconds and come up, often with fish. I was catching nothing...
Then, i was approached one solitary duck...

20210624_153116a.jpg 20210624_153114a.jpg

I think its an Australian shell duck but i always see them in large families or at least with a partner... I know a family of them very well in a little town, ive had lunch with them several times... But this handsome young male duck was all alone... With birds, its often the male duck that is strikingly beautiful, unlike with humans

And so i start talking to it... (Hey, people talk to their pets so im not all that crazy... LoL)
"Who are you? Where is your family? Where is your wife?"
He talks to me in soft little quacks and tells me his name is Barry and that he is a bachelor.
"Ah me too... two handsome young bachelors... LoL"

I went to my van... "cmon barry lets have some lunch"...
And so he follows, quaking along, telling me all about it...

bandicam 2021-06-24 19-02-06-655.jpg bandicam 2021-06-24 19-03-32-895.jpg

He follows me to my van and it was like God lifted the clouds to shine the sun onto Barry

bandicam 2021-06-24 18-57-25-807.jpg bandicam 2021-06-24 19-06-53-943.jpg

And so Barry starts strutting his stuff, staunch as can be, sticking out his massive chestnut chest and waddling around in front of me, posing for the camera... I notice small details like its tiny curly tail and the white ring around its neck but in the sunlight im captivated by its iridescent head. It changes colour from green to blue and purple as its moves in the sunlight... Its spectacular... I have no idea how this beautiful male is single

Then i sat in the back of my van and we had lunch together, just me and the bachelor Barry.

bandicam 2021-06-24 18-06-46-066.jpg bandicam 2021-06-24 18-08-10-572.jpg

After that he just sat beside me for a while, telling me about it all with his little quacks before returning to the river...

What a lunch, that was just awesome, i feel blessed to have had lunch with Barry today...

I wonder how cool it would be if more animals were as friendly to humans as Barry is. I imagine this is what it was like in the beginning with Adam and Eve and perhaps in heaven. Some people think there will be no animals in heaven, but i hope their will be, when the lion lies with the lamb and animals aren't afraid of one another.
Animals flee when they see us, especially birds, they take to they sky in a flash. Ducks are probably one of the most friendliest birds on earth towards humans...

How about you??? God shows us His wonder in many ways
How do u experience the wonder of God???

HAHAHAHA... and WOW.... You and me had to same kind of day .... except I got the shorter end of the stick because ... well...
I did not meet a handsome bachelor named Barry.... My day involved sitting on my beautiful RED BEACH CHAIR... watching the
bugs roll in.... and when I say bugs rolling in.... I am talking literally MILLIONS of bugs being washed ashore... the waves were actually
black from all the bugs.... Which bugs you ask??? so glad you asked... LOL...

iu

The SHAD FLY.... They arrive EVERY year... at exactly the same time ( this year they were two weeks early due to the lake melting early )... usually they arrive at the end of June ( almost like clock work )... Anyways... these bugs... are special because not every area gets them.. it has something to do with the lake... and it apparently indicates that the lake is healthy... they do not have a mouth... they are not in the least harmful and they only live 24 hours after coming off the lake...but they are a nuisance because they stink ( smell like fish )...and they are attracted to light... so at night... they come in off the lake and plaster all the store front properties.... to the point of having to be SPRAYED DOWN with a hose. They are here and gone within 3 weeks.

So... back to my story... I took my new beach chair and sat at the lake for 3 hours.... watching the massive shad flies being tossed to-and-fro in the big waves. I can't say it was pretty.... but it was AMAZING... to watch nature take its course.

I am so delighted that you have decided to make this space to share your adventures... Maybe I will drop in and add a few of mine.

Once again... you made my heart smile.

Great stories!!!
Watching and interaction with animals can be Wonderous.
We had made previous arrangements and just this morning picked up a dozen various sizes of wooden cable spools to add to our goats play yard. (And a couple for the dog who like to sit high and "guard" everything.)
Fun watching the goats play.

One interesting thing I've had the privilege of observing up close for the last few years is the LUNA MOTH.
They are only found in North America from mid plains to the eastern states. They emerge in the spring and only live about a week.
Their wing span can typically reach just over 4 inches. They are most active at night, and are a brilliant Lime Green, beautiful!
I have a few pix, but don't know how display here.

When i was living in the NZ bush several years ago we had a big green moth called Puriri, that frequented our lounge window. Our cat... Well no, that's something of a lie... No cat is "ours", and this one on particular was its own master and had it's own mind... He would love chasing these moths everywhere to gobble them up. Our 18 month old son was playing on that same verandah one afternoon and every time he ventured to crawl toward the edge, that same cat who couldn't care two hoots about anyone else, kept going round in front of our baby to push him back. This happened several times. He was a big orange cat and lived wild but just turned up every second day or so to say hi and get a free feed.

It sounds biblical like a plague of locusts...
But it's interesting how they come around like clockwork you said...
How do they know?
Do they have watches and calendars?
Who gives them this understanding?
God almighty...

Look how staunch he looks. I can't believe his single. I went back today and there he was again. This is very unusual for this species and I started thinking something isn't right.
Maybe there is an LGBT crisis in the duck community of this town... I dunno but it's odd

Ye... It's fun watching animals play...:D
I wish they were so scared of us so we could play with them... I wanted to touch Barry, feel the soft down feathers on his bottom, but I knew it would spook him and loose trust

Iv seen dogs be protective and gentle with children and babies but that's unusual for a cat.

I went back to the lake yesterday for another 3 hours... and what a difference 24 hours makes... the waves were much clearer... What I witnessed was indeed a phenomenon... I don't think many people even realize that this happens... It was truly a sight to see... and I am glad that I did.

Here is a news article I found to briefly describe their purpose... Most people are truly GROSSED out by them.. they are big... but I have a fondness for them... They also apparently cycle... so they go from not so many to OH my goodness.... This year was OH MY GOODNESS... they were everywhere and LOTS of them...

A local biologist said it may seem overwhelming, but shad flies hatch all at once over a period of two or three weeks and they are important for many reasons.

Birds eat them, as well as the shad flies that fall into the water at Lake Nipissing, fish will eat those as well, so they're really important food,” said Rebecca Gauvreau.

“They're also an indicator of water quality, so good shad flies, lots of shad flies, means we have good water quality.”

I could have picked a better article... this one is rather lame but... you get the picture.

Good morn...:D
Insects aren't my thing... I'm actually afraid of months they seem to attack my eyes... But their Gods creatures... Is it OK to kill a fly with fly spray just because it's in your home?
I think I started a thread on that while ago.
A spider is simple enough to remove without killing but no one could come up with a harmless way to remove a fly...

Hehehehe ye I was joking but something isn't right with Barry the bachelor. They're always in groups. Always. And I see no other duck in sight. Is he lost. Has his family left him or died. I dunno. He was there again today. It's odd. Look how beautiful he is. His been pumping weights with that chest his got

They aren't my thing either but ya gotta take what ya get... and where I live...BUGS are it... LOL

I wish we had the birds that you have... and we probably have some cool ones... but I just don't know about them... My personal favorite is the owl... they fascinate me... As for Barry.... He is indeed a dapper little thing...

On a funnier note... about a month ago... I saw a guy walking down the street... with two big dogs and a duck following behind them... it was the funniest thing ever... so I got my niece to turn around and go back...by then... the guy was sitting on his front steps and I asked him about the duck.... IT's his pet... It's called an Indian Runner.... His name is Leonard.... and he is apparently a celebrity around town... HAHA.... This is what makes life worth living... LOL

I had a thread a while ago on animal rescue when I found someone's pet pigeon that had flown 100kms from home and called itself owner to pick it up.. That was cool.

Iv had a few animal encounters.
I rescued a baby Rosella bird once. I found it lieing on the side of the road, lifeless, almost dead. It's powers of recovery amazed me.

But next I'm going to get some pictures ready and introduce you guys to another feathered friend who I named Big Poppa and his families...

A different kind of bird that has a clock and a calendar in their brains as well as GPS mapping... They can travel hundreds of kilometres a day but are a flightless bird...

Haha... Further evidence...
Ducks like dogs... Yep... Further evidence indeed... Ducks are fond of dogs...
Iv observed Ducks following dogs twice in the past 3 months... LoL... A dog owner told me as well, everything he comes to the pond, the ducks are interested... Curious creatures

I googled Indian Runner. Very tall standing standing ducks, they look funny...

Owls are unique. I've never seen one in the wild

YEP.... I guess they are the domesticated duck... I had honestly never heard of them before I met Leonard...
Imagine the duck walking behind two very large dogs on the sidewalk... VERY funny thing to see.
