Exodus 16:29 See THE CONTEXT, THE CIRCUMSTANCE, THE EVENT, because/for that the LORD (TODAY) on the Sixth Day GIVES (Present Tense) you BREAD (the thing "given", the) BREAD-OF/FOR-two-days."
It is not the Sabbath which God <gave> AT THIS OCCASION.
God at this place and time gave the people BREAD in the desert according to their needs "FOR/OF TWO days".
For the purpose of giving man REST on the 7th day.
God gave man bread/manna for 2 days they would gather twice as much on the 6th day, for the purpose of not working by gathering on the 7th day.
God provides for us.. already prepared for us, bread/life for the 7th day/Sabbath/Eternity.
God gave man the Sabbath to rest in with Him.

NLT: They must realize that the Sabbath is the LORD’s gift to you. That is why he gives you a two-day supply on the sixth day, so there will be enough for two days. On the Sabbath day you must each stay in your place. Do not go out to pick up food on the seventh day.”

What part of the Sabbath being the Lord's gift to man, do you not understand?

or even for man to do with it what man might think is better for him.

I totally agree with this part.
It's not a gift given to do our will.
It is a gift for us to do His will.
To rest in it, in Him.

Your just argumentative and I don't find it attractive.
And yet we all have to suck on gall at one time or another,
it's part of the growing process.
Doesn't mean I have to like it.

It says the law is fulfilled. It does not say that it is done away with. If love is the fulfillment of the law, that means that every act of love we do is a fulfillment of the law,
Christ is the Fulfilment of the Law. The fulfillment of the law isn't <<every act of love we do>> but the single omnipotent Divine Act of Love God had done in Jesus Christ.

No, what part of the Lord's gift to ISRAEL FOR TWO DAYS of the week of "BREAD" on the Sixth Day of the week for the Sixth Day and for the following Sabbath Day, do you, not understand? This was not the giving of the Sabbath or the making of the Law of the Sabbath.

No, you do not <<totally agree>> you presume the Sabbath is <it>, <<a gift-to rest in>> while <it> was the bread which God on "the Sixth Day" had given the Israelites in the desert not <to rest in> but to eat. Most Israelites obeyed God's will in this, but there were those who did not collect God's two-days supply of bread/manna and others who collected bread for two days on other days of the week than the Sixth Day only for the bread to get bad the day immediately after they collected it.

God says specifically in Exodus 16 that the sabbath is given as a test to prove Israel whether they would be faithful. They were proven unfaithful.
Sabbath proves our inability to sanctify ourselves. It is the LORD who sanctifies us

No. For the purpose of giving Israel when in the desert BREAD on or for the 7th day, God gave them bread/manna for 2 days on the Sixth Day. Hurray!

Something I've asked myself for years:
How do we spiritually gather twice as much on the 6th day?

What's that a picture of, regarding Christ?
All this is a picture of Christ. He is the true manna, and He it is that gives true rest

Hmm

a new heaven and a new earth
a new mind and a new body

we are baptised into His death, and raised in His Life.

Of which even Baptism is a Figure of.... it is a sign, a symbol, no different than that Sabbath for the Jew.

They have Rest in the world it looks like the 7th day of the week... it is a figure of that which is spiritual and unseen.
We are the new Life... that gives life to tree. the Light to see.

I think we either don't take it seriously,
maybe it's just hard to understand the basic roots of what we show the world.
Ye are the light of the world and the salt of the earth..

wake up, wake up......

this physical world is the veil.. if we could just look on the other side and understand everything and why and what they mean..

arguing only distracts, diverts attention from peeking through the veil.

try to avoid being angry, try to give positive feedback.
even if one doesn't agree, the conversation itself can be agreeable.

sorry...
just rambling...

light and salt..

why salt?
remember Lot's wife..
you were not salted when you were born..
Eze 16:4 And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.

Mat 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Mar 9:49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

Salted with salt....

I bet this would make a good bible study thread..

Salt

Hullo post.

There is an analogy between the congregation in the wilderness being doubly provided for and gathering twice as much manna on the day before the Sabbath when work was prohibited.

By example we will be wise stewards of what God provides, being diligent to rest in Christ, knowing that under the NT He sustains us, having satisfied and fulfilled the requirements of the OT Law.

Jesus is indeed the true manna [bread of life] that came down from heaven.

But what IS the "rest" that we have in Jesus?

Your just argumentative and I don't find it attractive.

Ziggy, you are a believer of God's Seventh Day of the week Sabbath DAY? So am I. Now imagine a Sunday or 7/7 24/24 enthusiast using the above your own 'argument' against you and the Sabbath of the Lord. It usually goes like this, God GAVE the Sabbath to the ISRAELITES only, not to Christians. His whole argument is built on the word 'gave' he invariably will employ to counter the Sabbath's validity for God's People other than Jews, us, Christians. Are you going to give the man any credit? Or are you going to grind him? Therefore I must and will be consistent AGAINST the same argument, whether used by a hypocrite or by a sincere but nevertheless mistaken believer.
