hammerstone locked a thread where the topic had moved to an issue that i need 3 questions answered by the RCC adherants. they are:

#1. how could Peter install Clement as the 3rd or 4th 'bishop' of the church in Rome when he died 30 years earlier? Such an act would remove ther authority from the 2-3 'bishops' in between them.

#2. how could Peter be the 1st 'bishop' of the church in Rome when it was established and running long before both Peter and Paul arrived in the city?

#3. How could there be an unbroken line of succession of bisops when the christians were persecuted from Nero on up to Constantine and christianity was illegal?

i would like honest answers supported by legitimate, credible sources and not the rcc catechism or rcc websites alone.

My eye is on this thread, don't try me either way or either side. I'd prefer not to get into denominational dogmatics, there are numerous other venues for that sort of thing.

i just want answers to those questions as history does not seem to be on the side of the RCC church and their claim.

Which is why I don't like the word "apostate." Lets see here... I am going to develop a religious set of dogmas and if you don't fit in... You are an apostate! So now we are all apostates! The Orthodox, the Catholics, the Methodists, the Pentecostals, the Charismatics... All apostates because of the 'denominational dogmatics!' Yikes! Check please! If you have a set of dogmas and have not love what good are the dogmas?

What issue are you trying to discredit? The office of the Pope or Apostolic Succession?

I agree Rocky, I am considered a heretic in most religious circles.

Hi Aspen,

I already answered all those questions under the "Church of Rome" thread. He can always look it up himself. :D

Thanks Selene! That saves a lot of typing. It just seems strange to me to argue against apostolic succession by discrediting the office of the Pope, especially since Orthodox and Coptic Christians teach the same idea without accepting the teachings of the Pope.

I agree. I also find it strange that he does not say anything about the Orthodox and Coptic Christians. He probably does not even know that the Coptic Church of Alexandria have a Pope. He probably thinks that ONLY the Catholic Church has a Pope.

LOL - I didn't know either - that is so interesting! So who was the first Coptic Pope?

The Coptic Church of Alexandria traced their lineage to St. Mark the Evangelist. They consider him an Apostle. He is the same St. Mark spoken of in Acts 12:25 and Acts 15:37. The Pope of the Coptic Church of Alexandria is Pope Shenouda III. Below is a weblink from the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria about St. Mark.

That is not what I said. I said that those questions were already answered in the "The Church at Rome," thread. Since your username is archaeologist, I assume that you can look up the thread. Afterall, archaeologists are historians who enjoy digging into the past. :)

If you're going to put down "apostolic succession," that would include the Orthodox and Coptic Christians because they are also an Apostolic Church and have apostolic succession like us. :p

I think what you are saying is that Selene cannot convince you. You're right. I am not sure why you have this expectation. It is not our job to convince anyone of anything - that is the Holy Spirit's job.

My brother, you also put words in my mouth. I said that I already answered those questions under the "The Church at Rome" thread" ......and you interpreted it to mean that I can't answer your questions. That is putting words in my mouth.

And why in the world is this thread only for you and me? This is a public forum board. By the way, could you spell my name correctly? It is "Selene." :)

#1. i am not your brother. i do not consider r.c.c. adherents christian unless they actually follow the Bible and the reject r.c.c. teachings.

#2. don't talk to me like i do not know anything, you are not that smart.

#3. then let's see you answer the questions.

#4. wasn't aware i had mis-spelt it.

#5. because you and i were having a discussion which was interupted and i want answers to those questions from you alone.
