Dear Brother Wrangle, nice to see you back - please elaborate = "going strictly by the bible is not biblical."

Thanks for the kind words. 'going strictly by the bible' is just my paraphrasing Sola Scriptura. Mungo says that is unbiblical. What a hostile and lost soul he is who desperately needs our prayers. Christ died for the likes of him.

Those who claim to reject Sola Scriptura, who then go on to demand Scripture to prove Sola Scriptura, are hypocrites, contradicting their own stated rejection of Sola Scriptura, by calling upon Scripture to authorize it as legitimate with the God of Scripture.

Demanding proof from Scripture is Sola Scriptura.
No it isn't.
It's asking people who believe in Sola Scriptura to prove their belief is true from the only source they say is truth.

If it was biblical then you could prove it from the bible.

What in God's green Earth are you talking about? In this thread, I believe we are allies. Just because my angle of attack/defense is different from yours does not mean there is false reporting, friend.

Consider the opposing principles:
  • The early bird gets the worm.
  • The 2nd mouse gets the cheese.

Neither principle needs to be proven for they are not evidence based. The same principle is not always correct for the occasion though as these 2 show. While I embrace Sola Scriptura, I like some of America's 21st century traditions, like summer cookouts, spending time with family to give thanks, praising God that I am free.

Hey, you know i love you right? I consider you a friend. i was focussing in on the Word not being evidence based when in fact, there is overwhelming evidence. This evidence has been suppressed by Satan throughout the Ages and especially today.
PEACE brother

But i f the Source is from the Creator / the Word / the Lord Jesus Christ / IAM / No other Saviour besides ME

then anyone would be a fool to reject it : "the fool has said in his heart there is no God"

2 Timothy 3:16 is a good start.

The church is an assembly of believers, not an authority for believers to be subjugated to.
And Sola Scriptura says the only authority to subject ourselves to is that of Scripture written and taught correctly.

So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading. (Nehem 8)

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. (2 Tim 2)

The first step to rightly dividing the Word of truth, is to rightly divide between what is written and what is not.

Sola Scriptura does so first, and then proceeds to judge all things not written by what is written.

Sola Scriptura judges things that are not written, to be profane and vain babblings, when there is nothing written in Scriptura to prove it.

Vain arguments of the world are those who reject Sola Scriptura, and then go on to argue the things of God from their own minds with one another.

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Tim 3)

And such arguments can indeed be intellectually stimulating, and no necessarily harmful, but never intelligent nor true with God: Not without Scripture to prove it as so.

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (Acts 17)

Mungo, your having a meltdown over simple truth that you cannot bear. Read and Pray the Gospel of John so that God may help you.

I was raised a Roman Catholic. I know Her evil ways and the Lord Jesus Christ commands us to 'Come out of her My People, less you receive of her sins and plagues....' Revelation
Mungo is only yanking chains.

He's not serious. He's just having some fun, because he knows his demand is self-defeating:

Needing Scripture to prove something is of God is Sola Scriptura. He knows that.

Let's be clear. I am not rejecting Scripture as the true and reliable words of God.
I reject Sola Scriptura as a doctrine that says scripture is the only source of the words of God.
Scripture doesn't say it is.
Nowhere does scripture teach sola scriptura.
Nowhere did Jesus teach sola scriptura.

I know what I'm talking about, because I used to do it often while getting drunk.

I got tired of that, and so starting reading the Bible itself, and voila': saved from all that.

And sometimes we could even ignorantly hit the mark: when Scripture says so. Though i didn't know that, until I started reading the Bible.

PLEASE READ carefully and repeatedly to yourself your own words. Enter your prayer closet and read them out loud to the Lord - this will help you IF you submit to God (not man), He will lift you UP. - Peace

Your opinion stated without evidence.

Sola Scriptura does so first, and then proceeds to judge all things not written by what is written.

Sola Scriptura judges things that are not written, to be profane and vain babblings, when there is nothing written in Scriptura to prove it.

Sola Scriptura is a man made tradition that is not found in scripture. It is you that does any judging based on that fale doctrine.

Vain arguments of the world are those who reject Sola Scriptura, and then go on to argue the things of God from their own minds with one another.
Your opinion

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (Acts 17)
Been there, answered that. See post #59

Scripture doesn't say it is.
Nowhere does scripture teach sola scriptura.

And we know you are only yanking chains here, because you don't bother responding to proofs of Scripture offered.

You also know you are being Sola Scriptura when demanding Scripture to prove anything about God and the Bible.

Since the Bible is only a true and reliable source, then the Bible is not the only source, and so the Bible is not necessary for any other source to be true.

A true rejector of sola Scriptura is one who quotes from any book as basis for belief and judgment in things of God and of life, whether it be the Bible, Koran, Buddhist manuscripts, philosophies, etc...

Therefore, your demand to prove Sola Scriptura by Scripture is meaningless, because you don't need Scripture to reject it, and no doubt have abundance of books and materials elsewhere that agree with you.

You are just peeved by someone like me that concludes people such are yourself are foolish pertaining to the things of God, when you have no Scripture for them.

The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.

The foolish have said in their hearts, there is no Sola Scriptura.

You can't answer my point.
Nowhere does scripture teach sola scriptura.
Nowhere did Jesus teach sola scriptura.
Search the scriptures and prove me wrong.

If I have missed any "proofs" given to me then point me to them.

You also know you are being Sola Scriptura when demanding Scripture to prove anything about God and the Bible.
No, I am holding people to their own doctrines.

Since the Bible is only a true and reliable source, then the Bible is not the only source, and so the Bible is not necessary for any other source to be true.
That is what you have yet to prove.

That utter nonsense.

You are just peeved by someone like me that concludes people such are yourself are foolish pertaining to the things of God, when you have no Scripture for them.
???

The foolish have said in their hearts, there is no Sola Scriptura.
Where does it say that in the Bible?
