@Dosia I hope this all turns out okay for you; and that you guys have a great Christmas...
I can’t remember who said it, but there’s this quote that is something like if you play stupid games you win stupid prizes. There’s a lot of truth to this when my oldest daughter went through this opioid plague the world is suffering now there came a time when I had to stop living in denial. When this day came she happened to be living in a house that I am my wife own. I was very aware at the time she was in trouble,,, she was pretty much skin and bone. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I went to the house one morning my wife and myself and informed her that I knew what was going on, and that if her and the codependent and my grandchild was going to continue living there, they would have to submit to random drug test. The boyfriend refused when we presented the first test a couple weeks later, and my daughter I believe at that moment realized she was in a troubled place that she couldn’t get out of without support.

She told me that day I’ll fail it. This was where the chili hit the cheese. I looked her in the eyes and said you can no longer live here…. I told both of them they could live at my house under supervision. They refused and vacated the premises, because they were informed there’s gonna be drug screens.

Long story short she’s soon four years sober and has educated herself and working a steady job and is a wonderful mother to my grandchildren. I should probably tell her more often how proud I am of her accomplishments.

I had to become a part of the solution, for many years I was only a part of the problem.

Thank you for sharing. You surely are a fortunate and blessed parent and you do have much to be proud of. Your daughter made the right choice and saved her life. My son does not live with us, both he and his girlfriend are users and we have been trying to help him out for quite some time. The denial is behind us and so is the enabling. We had to be taken several times before we learned our lesson not to supply him with money no matter how desperate he is? The only time we will give him money now, is if he tells us he needs to fill his medicine. My husband takes him to the drug store and makes sure it went to his medicine. If he tells us they have no food, we either buy him groceries or take him to the Grocery Store and make sure he buys food. He has not made contact with us for some time. We worry about him a lot. There nothing more we can do for him, that I'm aware of but keep praying for him. So happy that your story ended well.

@Dosia A moving account. I am reminded of Isaiah 48.10: "I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction".

Hebrews 7.25.

There was much hard stuff that transpired between her moving out and deciding to become accountable for herself. I left it all out of my account because it’s shameful. Be strong you and your husband and be encouraged, because this is not impossible for God. I’ll pray that God bring light to this darkness.

Amen! I’m not certain when it was this new word enabler became the term. We used to call it rewarding bad behavior. It’s very easy for parents to get caught up in this dynamic but the truth is that it reinforces bad behavior when it’s rewarded.

Hey Dosia, I'll pray for you.

I had to make a similar decision with my daughter. I finally kicked her out of the house and she has lived on the streets (couch surfing) ever since[...] Well 2 weeks later she was arrested....
Now 3 years later she has been arrested 2 more times....she is pending trial in January
His Will be done...I trust Him.
Addiction is a disease. If one of your children had cancer, would you kick them out and be satisfied with "Thy will be done"?

Vid, you assume too much. She was 40 years old and had 3 daughters all living with me.
It was when she started bringing her boyfriend over and doing drugs in front of the kids that I gave her a choice...get right or get out. She got out
Endangering a minor child is worse than making your adult child move out of the house.

And YES I KNOW ADDICTION IS A DISEASE...from my own past experiences.

Your comment was very offensive to me and not appreciated.

Have a good day
