Yes.....we should, but we can’t ......not as long as we reside in these weak bodies of flesh.....we’ll know Perfection “ over there”.......We had all better get us some Grace to cover our sins to assure us that we will make it to “ over there “......It will elude you until you learn how to Rest in the Gospel Of Grace......you can find it in 1Cor15:1-4......
If we can't stop sinning, why did Jesus tell us to stop sinning (Matthew 4:17)?

But wouldn't it be better if we stopped sinning?

It occurs to me that it might be wise to determine exactly what sin is. That would make it easier to stop.
it might serve to understand that “sin” is quite often a judgement made by others; you might be called “sinner” for…feeding the homeless, even

and you might not be called a sinner for throwing an excess (or any) of plastic away

Yes, but of course you and I and those around us don't determine what sin is - that is God's job.

Oh Bob, I desire to be brutally honest with you now just for sharing purposes,

What is your sin and pleasure!?

Let’s talk about our sins so we can bear each other in them.

Sometimes I still have the urge to watch porno as I don’t have a wife. Doesn’t effect me when I go and do this act? Sure to some degree it does. Is that sin to most people? Yes. Jesus has taken care of my sin. That means He has the strength to help me not to go see the porno. However it’s my choice if I want to or not…

You see.

It’s the same thing if you hate someone, or whatever the thing is, and what bothers me is people believe they can be perfectly sinless.

People will have a problem with this scripture,

Let’s confess to one another Bob if we are gonna try to do this biblically my brother, would you like to join in?

Sometimes my sin is being inpatient with others.
Sometimes my sin is being angry, which doesn’t bring forth the righteousness of God.
Sometimes my sin is desire for porn, it would be better to have a wife I know.
sometimes my sin is the desire to be greedy.

I know this for a fact though my sins have been forgiven and I don’t have to harp over them… or cry oh me oh my look at what I do. I’m such a wretched human being…

I already know I’m capable of doing evil, and Jesus helps me hold back for the most part of acting on the things which are evil, if I allow the spirit to flow rather than letting the flesh go.

“if we may say — ‘we have fellowship with Him,’ and in the darkness may walk — we lie, and do not the truth; and if in the light we may walk, as He is in the light — we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son doth cleanse us from every sin; if we may say — ‘we have not sin,’ ourselves we lead astray, and the truth is not in us; if we may confess our sins, stedfast He is and righteous that He may forgive us the sins, and may cleanse us from every unrighteousness; if we may say — ‘we have not sinned,’ a liar we make Him, and His word is not in us.”

Then again some people all they need to do is read the red letters and not take in consideration the rest of the scriptures. It suits them, and they are my brothers and sisters in Christ if that is what they desire to do.

Whatever you desire to do it is up to you, however if you are missing over a good chunk of the apostolic record and you are not growing in your walk and eating meat.

My encouragement is to get into your bible learn who Jesus is, he gives you new life, and read all of the Bible and not only just the Gospels. Become rooted in what is truth…

In Christ,
Matthew Gallagher

hmm…although i dont know bob, i suspect that nothing could be further from the truth, but we just accept that paradigm bc…we seek to become immortal?

furthermore the father judges no one, but has given all judgement to the son

I would bet that you have never broken the Commandment in regard to Adultery and my hat is off to you for that .....BUT.....Jesus said if you ever harbored a Lustful Thought, you are as Guilty as an Adulterer in the eyes of God ......It would be wise to find the Grace that could get your sinful, lustful thoughts that we all have , covered....that would require Resting in the Gospel Of Grace.... 1Cor15:1-4
Hi BB,
I'd be careful about saying that "we all have" as, no, we ALL do not have those thoughts, I sure don't as, He has blessed me with celibacy and, never had much of a drive that way anyhow, I've been alone and single since the age of 39, mostly because my body started breaking down then and, has gotten progressively worse. Not everybody has that kind of libido, I think my brothers got my share :D and that is just fine with me. :)

You are missing the point....... if lust is not your particular weak spot—-good for you! I can guarantee you that something “else” is your “ besetting sin”....... do you ever Worry about anything? Worrying is a sin. Are you familiar with those pesky “Sins Of Omission” that all of the deluded Legalists refuse to talk about? Just how many poor, hungry strangers did you invite into your home today to feed and clothe? In your selfishness , You neglected to do many things that could have helped those less fortunate than you , and you Knew it .....it’s much easier to lie around on the couch all day and watch tv——-that’s sinful.

How much time did you spend praying today ? Did you do as ordered and “ Pray without Ceasing?” I doubt it—- I know that I didn't....

Do you see the point that I am trying to make? You were born a sinner and you are going to die a Sinner ——God has purposely set an impossible Standard so that you will never forget that you are a Sinner That MUST have a Savior to gain Eternal Life .....If the Holy Spirit has given you any insight at all, you need to realize that “ the closer we get to God”—— the Farther Away we should see ourselves

I think that it is true that we all do better “ behavior-wise” as time passes on our Walk Of Faith....We Have New Hearts .....we are “ New Creations”......God is at work inside of the Believer, transforming him into the Image Of His Son....” its that “ inside of the cup” thing that you may have heard about....

I am not near the Sinner That I was 40 years ago and God gets ALL the credit for that.....Still though, if one chooses to use one’s Morality Improvement as the basis for his Justification before a Holy God on Judgement Day instead of claiming “ Nothing But The Blood” and giving 100% of the Credit to Jesus for your Salvation and exactly 0 % for yourself , you may one of the poor misguided souls that hear, “ Depart from me, I never knew you”........

Rejoice if your obedience improves over the years—- it is a gift from God—- but just don’t think that your improved morality is what gets you Saved.....God has clearly shown that if you take the route of trying to clean yourself up and trying to make yourself “ worthy” , the STANDARD for that Erroneous , Confused and Demonic Doctrine is “ PERFECTION”....24/7..... how ya doin’ with THAT? “ You are to be PERFECT”, Jesus said.....

Hallelujah to all of you out there that can meet God’s Standard Of Perfection.....to you others out there like me,those that have blessed with “ eyes to see” who have the self - knowledge to see that they will still need a Ton Of Grace the day that they die——-
just like they did on the day that they got Saved —— take God’s “Elixir” for your sinful dilemma —- no matter “ how” much you think have “ improved” —— Believe and REST in the Gospel Of Grace—— 1Cor15:1-4.....THAT is what Paul said you will be Judged by on Judgement Day......not how “ good” you became in your lifetime and how you “ rose above Sin “.......

God and Jesus, who are in agreement, know a lot more than we know. They know what is good for us and what is bad for us. What is bad for us is called sin.

How do we know half the Decalogue came from Hammurabi? Doesn't the Bible say it came from God?

well, i guess "God" is a pretty generic term? Do you mean YHWH, Elohim, or Theos, Bob?
dunno why that keeps suddenly coming up on my radar, hmm

anyway, as to part 1, google could prolly tell you better than i, half the Decalogue came from Hammurabi - Search (bing.com) , arg Bing im not so sure lol, but anyway i suspect that that was intentional, much like the lifting of the titles messiah, savior, king of kings, lord of lords, etc

.to you others out there like me,those that have blessed with “ eyes to see” who have the self - knowledge to see that they will still need a Ton Of Grace the day that they die——-
just like they did on the day that they got Saved“.......

As you are explaining...

The born again, START, that instant, as "made righteous".......so, that is what God has provided as "the gift of Righteousness"= so that our spirit has become "a new creation In Christ".

The born again are not trying to earn eternal life.
We already have it, as Christ is Eternal life, and He is IN ALL THE BORN AGAIN.
"Christ in you, the hope of Glory".....(Glory is Heaven).
"Temple of the Holy Spirit".

Christians, the born again, are not trying to become Righteous, as we are already "made righteous".
A smart preacher once said..>"the born again Start finished"., and that'll preach.

And a person says....."well, if im as righteous as God, then what is next".

A.) give Him your life, and remember to keep praising Him all the time for what He has done for you, on The Cross.

And another person says......"but what if i mess up".

A.) You can't mess up Salvation, as you didnt cause it, you just received it from God, when you trusted in Christ.

You can't stop being born again. You can't stop being a Son or Daughter of God., and you can thank God for that, all the time.

There is one God. He created us, wants what's best for us, and knows what's best for us. Jesus told us all about him.

Whoa! Did I say I never sin??! Before getting out of bed I've probably sinned in thought, attitude or not greeting The Father FIRST many times.

God KNOWS how many poor I have had in this house!
I do NOT watch tv. Haven't in decades.

Perhaps you and I have a different take on "praying without ceasing"?? Prayer is at the forefront of my mind at ALL times no matter what I'm doing. 24/7!

Brother, you have no clue what God has brought me out of, fully and for good!

God ALWAYS gets the glory, whatever makes you think that I am looking for ANY kind of glory??!
And, I know full WHO saved me...please.

Ephesians 2:8-9
8" For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast."

Think I'll just let the rest of your post alone.

You are very presumptuous.
May God let you see that.

If you will allow me to add to your typically excellent and insightful post,I would add this little tid- bit that always seems to be overlooked.....

The question is posed—- “ I’m Saved, what do I do NOW?”......in other words , How are we to Live once we get Saved......Paul tells us how to live — “ The Righteous shall * LIVE * by FAITH !” We Finish our Christian Walk the same Way that we started it —- FAITH! Faith is acting on a Promise Of God.....Start viewing The Bible as NOT just a Book Of Commands—- look at it also as a Book Of Promises ! Hundreds of them that are the answer to every problem and challenge you will ever face in your Christian Walk......

Concentrate more on developing your ” Faith Muscles” and put your “ don’t do this and do do that” list on the back burner for awhile....The Faith That really impresses God is the kind that shows Courage ( think David vs Goliath) .....find the Promises Of God and have the Courage and Faith to stick your neck out when trouble comes—- Trusting God to be true to His Word when circumstances seem to indicate that you are in trouble and there is just “ NO WAY” to be rescued ......hanging onto a Promise Of God with just a fingernail grip if that is all that you can muster.....

David did things that were beyond despicable , yet God claimed that David was “ A man after His own Heart” ......God loved David and it sure as heck wasn’t because of David's goodness”......it was because of his Courage—— a Courage backed by the surety that God would keep His Word ....

Sooner or later , it is extremely likely that God will be testing “your” Faith—- your courage based on whether or not you Trust Him.....Here’s a test that every person that “ claims” to be a Believer must pass—— When it comes to your Salvation, do you trust in your Performance—- you “making yourself” Worthy by your supposed improved Morality , or do you have the Faith and the Courage to take your Eternal Destiny and place it ENTIRELY in the hands of Jesus? His Shed Blood Plus NOTHING ! That takes Faith and that takes Courage, because if God does not keep His Word ....you are Doomed.I Believe that Jesus died for my Sins and rose from the grave....Not Adding to that with something that * I* do takes Faith.....it takes Courage ......God says that by simply Believing that Gospel and never Adding to it with my works ( just for the sake of a little “ insurance” ) is the Way to get Saved .....it takes Faith and Courage to reject that “Insurance”—— it could mean the difference between Heaven and Hell......”The man that finds LIFE will find it by Trusting God” ....God Bless

It appeared to me that you were bragging about your low- level libido ....I am so accustomed to seeing self- righteous Posts in these Forums I may have “ jumped the gun” on yours......A problem I have that I must confess to, is that once I take a glance at those types of posts and think that I see where they are headed.....my eyes just kinda “ glaze over” and I don’t read them as carefully as I should.....and for that you have my sincerest apology.....

With This recent posting of yours , I tried not to make the same mistake......anybody that goes out of their way to quote Ephesians 2:8-9 is my Brother ( or Sister) ......you are correct.....I WAS “Presumptuous” and I hope you will forgive me....At the risk of once again being “ presumptuous” I have a sneaking suspicion that you will readily forgive me .....I know how your mind works....we are both Christians....you proved it in your post...

It’s nice to make your acquaintance .....it’s a shame that my stupidity got us off to a poor start....What did “ Dear Abbey “ used to say? ——“Thirty lashes with a wet noodle” —— Lol......Flail Away! God bless...
