Bible Ribbons and bookmarks

I’ve had a lovely new Bible, but the ribbons are so long! Is there a reason for this or are they designed to be cut to a preferred length…..but then would they fray? Just curious what others do?

Or do you prefer bookmarks - which I usually do? Or a card which you mark so you remember where you’re up to if reading in several different books?

I believe that they are long enough to reach diagonally across the book with some left over to hold onto.

Hi @Goldie75 Maybe they are designed with the assumption in mind that several passages may be pursued during the same period, and hanging down they make it easy to keep going back to the passages....

Yes, I think they could probably go down the page to the bottom and then up another page. I've never had a bible with ribbons. Nice!

PS: I think the idea of a larger, pulpit Bible having ribbons is that if someone is doing a reading - maybe from more than one passage - it is thus easier to turn the page quickly and not have to spend time looking for the passage.

I do understand the concept of ribbons!!
It’s that the ones in this bible are not far off double the length of the page…which seems a bit excessive.

One positive I’ve noticed is they don’t all fall out like bookmarks can which can be pretty irritating.

I like it but some books are very hard to read for old English. Like the book of Samuel (I'm reading it now). It is kind of frustrating but I think the King James is the go to for study. Some times I will use other versions to compare or if I don't understand the king James. Usually the other versions clear up the confusion.

@Mantis A more formal version can be an accurate base for Bible study, indeed...

They won't fray too much if you cut them at a 45degree angle.

@Mantis For some ppl, print size can be an issue also. It's good to remember that one's eyes can deteriorate gradually, and so having a Bible to read that has big enough print can increasingly be relevant...

Oh yeah I am experiencing that. My bibles are getting bigger and bigger print as I buy them lol
