I forgot about this:
Thank you brother...I can be like a bull in a china shop sometimes.
God bless
Johann.
And this:
Don't feel bad--I'm the poster boy. ;)

I'm afraid I owe you an apology, Sir. It's getting to be an embarrassing habit lately. I'm afraid I haven't been keeping my tongue like choice silver, but rather like a deadly arrow.

Again, I'm sorry for my ill-treatment of you. :(

I told you I was the poster boy. ;)

Lol!

Kuba ekukhohlweni komthetho, ekubeni uswele amandla ngayo inyama, uthe uThixo, ethume owakhe uNyana, efana nenyama elawulwa sisono, emthume ngenxa yesono, wasigweba isono esenyameni leyo;
ukuze ibango lomthetho lizaliseke kuthi, thina singahambiyo ngokwenyama; sihambayo ngokoMoya.

That's amazing! Do you actually have Romans 8:3-4 memorized in Xhosa? Or did/do you think in Xhosa and translate to English spontaneously? I've actually always admired people who can speak more than one language.

Don't like these emoji's...
They're not much, are they? You can import, but it's a bit of a hassle.
Or do you mean you don't care for emojis, in general?

I like to play around with text formatting.
I'm a bit of a nerd.
This color looks a lot like a Ford Thunderbird I once almost bought. lol

I did pick up a little German when I was stationed over there in the Air Force.

I sang that song in gasthausen for months before I even knew what it means.
I was an honorary Pfälzer for a few years in the '80s
(Hope this isn't too frivolous banter-like, although I guess it would qualify, seeing that I was quite a drunk while I was there. Did meet my lovely wife there, though.)

Sorry, I can definitely ramble on.

@Johann

So, concerning assurance, would you say you lean slightly toward a Lutheran understanding?
I would say I lean more toward a Reformed theology..Edwards, Owen, Spurgeon, Arthur Pink with Luther and of course Calvin, Engelsma and Hoeksema...also Gill and Matthew Henry...

I guess I am failing to get your understanding Byrd. I fully believe that Christians right now on avg live longer than the world, because of not abusing themselves as many in the world do. No doubt they live happier lives which helps as well. If that is what you mean then I fully agree.
not what i meant, no

That wasn't actually the topic being discussed however, but hopefully that is what you meant.
the topic being referenced was "death, more abundantly" rather than life, more abundantly, i forget the comment (a questionable statement of absolute truth, surely) now, prolly something along the lines of "when we all get to heaven" or something similar

Christians do not have infighting sir, you are very mistaken about that.
ha, ok
If a person rebels, they have to be put out of the Congregation.
so you say, yes

All code for 'Righteousness By Sincerity.'

Never heard of this. Did the tax collector fall on his knees and cry out because he was sincere?
I lived it for 16 years.

Gave it up for the real thing--Righteousness By Faith.

I die daily.

Honestly, EG, the more I participate in these discussions, the more selfish I feel. No kidding.
are you die daily and that's why you think you earn salvation?
Not sure what you mean bro. DO not want to misread you. enough of that goes on here.

Well, as I'm sure you have divined by now, I'm a Seventh-day Adventist, so I have been exposed to mainly an Arminian view of assurance but I cannot deny the Lutheran view interests and intrigues me. I feel like there's a great tension among brethren between the degree of human and divine involvement in the final outcome of a believer's destiny.

Personally, predestination doesn't necessitate predeterminism, to my mind. I think God can easily pull that off. Religious liberty is, in a very real sense, a foundational pillar of my faith. It is a matter of the integrity of the very character of God, as I see it.

We have this treasure in earthen vessels, of course, so I speak as a man in language that is greatly limited in expressing the mystery of redemption. I believe redemption is fairly simple for us, but very complicated and intricate for God, Who, of course, is well able to accomplish it.

Did you mean that you, me, or Puritanism is not very popular here? lol

I think everybody has hope sir. I don't know one person who doesn't, who has any mentality whatsoever. Thinking about it, I would say hope is created into just about every thinking creature. My dog hopes that every time I eat I will give her some. What we are talking about here is Biblical hope, no doubt everyone who posts here will have hope, you used the words: "that don't give me hope", yet you have hope. Hope is a quality we all have, but how great it is when our hope is in line with Scripture, based on the promises of God.

Jehovah gives a real hope Greatful. He offers everlasting life for all those who choose it sir, that hope is just as real as He is. As I mentioned, it will come about for all who choose life, will you choose life? Before you choose however, life is not there for the asking, if you choose life, you accept the requirements as well.

You mentioned one hope of being saved, and then correctly noted that they were not saved, did you pick up on the reason that their hope was false? The account is found at Mat 7:21-23
accept the requirements?

That's the issue my friend.

There are no requirements you can meet. There is only one requirement, and that is to be perfect, To be without sin. and no one has ever met that requirement

that's why no one could be saved by the law. No one could live up to the requirement.

As for why their hope was false. It had to do with faith, or in their case lack of it.

Matt 7 is not why. That is how we can see them. Its no different than James 2.

Those people had no real faith in god.

their faith was in self.. either in a licentious way or a legalistic way. (in the case of people who claim to have faith but have no works, it is the legalistic way)

Neither one of them have true hope. Anyone who as a true believe and has tried to trust in themselves to do something and not relied on God understand how futile it is to trust self and not trust in God..

I hate to burst your bubble Enoch, the oldest human on record still living is 119 yrs old. The simple truth is sir, if everlasting life happens, it will have to be a future event.
not true

even when that 119 year old person's body dies, his spirit still lives.

the question is will he suffer eternal death (Hell) or eternal life (Heaven)

God gives us the choice of life or death Byrd Deut 30:19,20; He encourages us to choose life. The Bible speaks a lot about life and death, and points out that the most of humans will choose the path to death Mat 7:13.

You seem to accept that anyone who claims to be a Christian is a Christian, however Jesus disagrees and clearly states that Christians can be identified by their fruits. Inbickering and fighting in the Christian congregation is not tolerated, and anyone who does it is an apostate, and will be put out 2 Jn 9-11.

The indication is that when a person STOPS their "Crucifying of the Lord afresh", reconciliation is possible.

Not at all sir, like many you chose to only partially post what was written to get across what you wanted to hear, rather than what the account actually stated:
Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

When the Bible point blank says that it is impossible to renew them to repentance, then I believe it Bob. But I can say that I hope you are correct and my understanding is what is flawed for sure.

import how? ty
Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, BB, my friend, I've been swamped the last few days with the cares of this life.
banghead.gif

Now, see, the way you import smileys is to go to a website like this:
Angry Smilies - Angry Smileys
Then you right-click or tap-and-hold on the image of the smiley you want to use.

(Some websites will require you to click through to a page dedicated entirely to the image.)
(Some websites--usually emoji--only provide code or link that won't work--best to search for "smilies" or "smiley")
Then you select: Copy image link (or location or whatever similar option your browser offers).

(I use Firefox--I don't run Windoze--MX Linux is my preferred OS--I'm kind of a non-conformist nerd.)
Then you click on the -image- button (not -camera-)
Then you paste the URL you copied from the smiley website.
Then click -INSERT- and VOILA--you're off and running!
