Absolutely right. But
you did. You said the passages you quoted were "about unlimited atonement/salvation." So the central focus ~ again, yours ~ was on the supposed unlimited-ness and universal-ness of atonement/salvation. The offer of the Gospel and the
sufficiency of Christ's atonement to cover all is absolutely true, and in that sense, the atonement is unlimited and universal. But it is given to ~ efficacious for ~ only some/many, and in that sense, it is limited. As you must surely know, Jesus did say the following (emphasis added):
"All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him." (Matthew 11:27; Luke 10:22)
"The works that I do in My Father’s name bear witness about Me, but you do not believe because you are not among My sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, Who has given them to Me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one." (John 10:25-30)
"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you." (John 15:16)
Nope. That's all you. Sufficiency and efficacy are two very different things.
Grace and peace to you.
