Marriage at the Resurrection
23 That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question.

24
“Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him.

25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother.

26
The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh.

27 Finally, the woman died.

28
Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?”

29 Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.

30
At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

31 But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you,

32
‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’ ? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.

I believe there is resurrection, so I acknowledge that your thread isn’t directed at people like me. (I’ve also done my daily Bible reading, as you’ve kindly encouraged me to do.)

Why do you think Jesus said “He” instead of “I” or “We” in verse 32?

Who is the “He” in relation to Jesus?

(If you think this will take the thread off topic then don’t worry about addressing my questions. We can talk about it in another thread some other time.)

Jesus speaks how he is lead to by his Father, and I also image sometimes by his own accord.

Can you explain the purpose of your OP a little?

It is a showing of what Jesus had said about the resurrection, Gen2Rev, in which the Sadducees in that day did not believe in it at all.

But you do believe in a resurrection, correct?

Do you find it interesting that Jesus doesn't mention resurrection(s) plural?

Me too.

This is just one case of what Jesus had said about something, one little section of luke. There are also talking about resurrection of the damned, and those who come to life found somewhere in the Gospel (the total 4 accounts), Gen2Rev.

What is interesting here in this passage is that though people get married in this life, and maybe sometimes get divorced or their husband or wife dies, when they are resurrected they are not going to have to worry about - being tied to anyone.

32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’ ? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”
This is the “money verse” in that conversation.
The Sadducees wanted to trick Jesus.
The people wanted to talk about some future ‘resurrection’.
Jesus chose to reveal something far more important about RIGHT NOW … The great I AM is the God of the living: Abraham IS alive (present tense). Isaac IS alive (present tense). Jacob IS alive (present tense).

After Jesus’ resurrection, the Apostles are going to make a much bigger deal about this being alive RIGHT NOW. It all started with a question intended to trick Jesus and leads to a new life in God.

Hoorahh!

“Now if Christ is preached, that he has not been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; …”

(1 Corinthians 15:12-13)

Had Christ not been resurrected from the dead he would still be dead. The Christian faith collapses if he is still dead. Resurrection of the dead is the means by which the dead (including Christ, but not only Christ) are made alive again.

“But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.”

(1 Corinthians 15:20)

Christ was dead. Christ was made alive again. The dead are dead. They will be made alive via resurrection, just as Christ was.

“But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are his at his coming, then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when he has abolished all rule, all authority and all power.”

(1 Corinthians 15:24)

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are dead. They believed in resurrection. They are his and they will be resurrected at his coming, as all believers will be.

The Sadducees didn’t believe in resurrection. They should have. They tried to trip up Christ with their elaborate scenario, which even they didn’t believe in. This was all about what Christ (and the Pharisees) believed in. Resurrection of the dead.

“Jesus is alive!”

Yes.

But for those who believe that the dead are already alive without the need of resurrection, wasn’t he always alive?

The point of “Jesus is alive!” is that he was, for a brief period of time, not alive. Resurrection restored him to life.

Now that is something to be excited about!

Because that happened to him, we who belong to him have the assurance that it will happen for all believers who have died, and for all believers who will die. We will be resurrected to life when he returns.

Maranatha.

YES!

Hallelujah!

And then we'll be judged.

Some to damnation and some to eternity with God and the angels.

The RES!!! Yeah!

What peace in that promise.

What we may conclude about Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all faithful servants of Jehovah who have died? Jesus made this forceful statement: “They are all living to him.” (Luke 20:38) Indeed, Jehovah’s purpose to resurrect his faithful servants who have died is so sure of fulfillment that he thinks of them as living. (Romans 4:16, 17) Jehovah will keep all such ones in his limitless memory until his due time to restore them to life.

with a real tangible human body ?
Some those that God has chosen who are the anointed, those who are born again and be in heaven with Jesus in that heavenly Messianic kingdom and who will be kings, priests, and judges with Jesus ruling over the earth will be resurrected with immortal incorruptible spirit bodies. Those who will be the subjects of that kingdom and will be resurrected on earth will be resurrected with a human body

All of the redeemed as per 1 Corinthians 15 will have immortal incorruptible bodies like Jesus. You are seeing the Bible through your religions teaching which is eisegesis . Reading your own ideas into the text . Resurrection means raised bodily .

hope this helps !!!

1 Corinthians 15 is talking about the anointed. Those who get a resurrection like Jesus who was resurrected immortal and incorruptible will also be resurrected immortal and incorruptible. They also will be kings, priests and judges with Jesus in that kingdom with Jesus. If all righteous humans are going to be kings, priests, and judges who will they rule over, who will they be priests to, who will they judge.
