Jeremiah 14:8-9 O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night? Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by Thy name; leave us not.

The hope of Israel is the Saviour and He is "in the midst of us," and...we are "called by Thy name." Christ IS the Saviour and He dwells in us, walks in us, He is...in our midst. Israel, for that is the subject, is called by His name...Christ/Christian. This passage is NOT about the house of Judah living in the present nation of Israel. It is about the Saviour in the midst of those that carry His name...wherever we are. It does not exclude the house of Judah, the Jews, for they are an integral part of Israel...the tribes. They will become one with their Christian brothers in the hand of the Lord.

Jeremiah 14:10 Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; He will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.

"This people" will be visited for their sins and they are...us, Christians...those that are known by His name.

14:11-12 Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good. When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.
Why? If we pray to Him, cry to Him, offer to Him why will He not accept us?

14:13-14 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place. Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in My name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

There is the reason. Those that love the Lord listen to false prophets. They promise peace to us when it isn't theirs to give. They speak lies while they act as prophets of the Lord...He did NOT send them.

14:15-16 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in My name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed. And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.

The false prophets that come in His name....come as Christians, tell us we won't see the tribulation, no sword or famine for you because you'll be raptured away. But, God warns those that listen to them there are serious repercussions. We will all see sword and famine. The famine is "for hearing the word of the Lord," [Amos 8:11] while the sword comes from the mouths of the false prophets.

Very well said.

With your permission I would like to keep a copy of your post for a reference? That is really well stated and hits right to the heart.

Thank you Vengle but there wasn't much I stated. The majority of the OP are His words with the addition of what I understand them to mean. But, I do thank you for your kind thought. :) It is appreciated.

I think it very wise to apply this strong rebuke to us.

I don't worry so much about a doctrine such as rapture, but about the fact we are being taught we are rich, and lack nothing spiritual... The very lie that deceived the Laodiceans.

So, how do we check to see if we're in a Church run by 'hirelings' that our Lord did not call, or in a Church that our Lord Jesus would be proud of?

It always boils down to one major thing per our Lord's prophecy in Isaiah 28; God's Word chapter by chapter and line upon line. Because God made that requirement for true understanding by The Holy Spirit, He said many will fall backward and be taken and snared, pointing to deception.

From the choir loft:

The rapture thing is a con.

Long long ago and far far away, the ideology began as a sincere attempt to interpret some of the events of the last days. Strangely, the closer we get to them the more numerous these heresies become. Such was not the case a hundred years or more ago.

Then again it was not so profitable to sell books about it, books which do more to tickle the imagination and to flatter a proud spirit than to provoke unto sobriety and viligence. Books sermons and opinions that suggest we must all consecrate ourselves to Jesus, so that we may endure the test of time, are not so popular.

Not popular at all.

We are to consecrate our selves to God because He commanded it, not because we will get a good grade from God after a test. Whether or not a Rapture occurs isn't the point (I am convinced the Bible teaches of a "snatching away", but YMMV), the real point is that after a while God will lift His hand of benevolence from this world, recall His Holy Spirit from the hearts of Man, and allow us our fondest desire, the desire that wooed us from The Garden so many milennia ago, "You shall be as God".

He will allow us to exist without His influence, providence, and blessing... THEN we will see truly what the enemy is capable of, when he has free reign over our already despicable hearts and minds.

Then God will not heed our cry. He will merely say, "I told you so."

Very true! We must be more noble than those that choose to simply accept what they are taught.

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

That also applies to our understanding of what we think we receive from the Holy Spirit. Is it written? If it is true then it will be validated...whether taught by the Spirit directly or by the Spirit though another person.

I agree. It is a dangerous con.
