Some so-called Christian denominations don't give much weight to the Old Testament prophets, mainly because they conflict with those type church's limited Bible scope and understanding. I know those type of churches well, as I was raised in one of them, a Preterist church. But I in no way claim those denominations that teach too many doctrines of men instead of sticking with God's Word as written. I actually do not recall their teaching much prophecy about the end times even! That is how wrapped up in their own minds their doctrines of men are.

The Zechariah 14 Chapter is an Old Testament Bible prophecy that gives details about Christ's future 2nd coming back to this earth.

There is more detail in it about Christ's future coming than what The New Testament Scriptures reveal. It is thus one of the most important Bible Chapters for the Christian Church. It reveals many of the false doctrines taught by men about Christ's future coming and reign. It makes clear just 'when', and 'how' Lord Jesus returns to this earth, and 'who' returns with Him, and 'who' He will reign over from Jerusalem, on earth.

Zech 14
1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.

That "day of the Lord" means the very LAST day of this present world when Lord Jesus will come "as a thief in the night." Recall Paul in 1 Thess.5 revealed that, as Peter also did in 2 Peter 3:10 about God's "consuming fire" burning man's works off this earth on that day. And per Rev.16:15, within the 6th Vial timing, Lord Jesus said that He comes "as a thief". The next 7th Vial then signals this "day of the Lord" when His 2nd coming will be.

2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when He fought in the day of battle.

That above is a reference to that last day of this world, the "day of the Lord" when Jesus returns to this earth. That is the battle of Armageddon mentioned in the Rev.19 Chapter. In Zephaniah 3 also is where God said He is going to gather all nations so as to pour out all His fierce anger and indignation upon them.

In that 3rd verse above, just when did... The LORD go forth and fight against those nations in the past, as when He fought in the day of battle? If you have eyes to see, and ears to hear, do you know when Lucifer's original rebellion was when Lucifer drew a third of the angels (stars) to earth with him? The Rev.12:3-4 Scripture reveals back at Lucifer's original time of rebellion, he had setup a beast system that had ten horns, seven heads, but only seven crowns. That is not the same system mentioned in Rev.13:1. The Rev.13:1 beast kingdom is for the end of this present world, and is to have "ten crowns" instead of seven.

4 And His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

There is where, and how... Lord Jesus will return in the future at His 2nd coming. He is not just going to appear out of the clouds to rapture His Church and then go back into Heaven with them, for that is a doctrine of men.

Lord Jesus is coming literally... back to earth, how He ascended into Heaven, as mentioned in Acts 1 by what the angels said to His disciples who saw Him ascend.

When Lord Jesus' feet touch down there east of Jerusalem, ON EARTH, on that final day of this world, the Mount of Olives is going to cleave in two, half of it to the north, and half of it to the south, forming a great valley running east and west. That definitely ain't going to be some secret either. All nations and peoples on earth will know about it.

5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with Thee.

In 1 Thess.4 Apostle Paul did not specifically tell us just 'where' Lord Jesus will come to when He comes to gather His Church. Since this Zechariah 14 Chapter makes it very plain just 'where' and 'how' Lord Jesus will return to Jerusalem, on earth, with His elect Church, did Apostle Paul really need to give that detail also in 1 Thess.4? No, not really. If one just reads the 1 Thess.4 Chapter about Christ's future coming and gathering of the Church, and not this, then it means their understanding just HANGS on Jesus and His Church being caught up to the "air", and that's it. Home in the "air'! and not on earth. That is actually what some country preachers teach, that's how Biblically illiterate they are.

But here in Zechariah 14, which reveals Christ's FEET will touch down upon the Mount of Olives east of Jerusalem, ON EARTH, and with His elect Church, well that destroys... the silly doctrines of men those Biblically illiterate preachers teach. That's why they don't really like this Zechariah 14 Chapter, because it goes directly against the falseness of what they are teaching! And that is why Zechariah 14 should be all the more important to Christ's faithful who KEEP what God's Word says, instead of what men's doctrines say.

6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:

That kind of event, with the sun turning dark, and the moon not giving its light, was a sign Jesus gave about the day of His future coming (Matthew 24:29; Mark 13:24).

7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

That also was a SIGN Lord Jesus gave in His Olivet discourse of Matth.24 and Mark 13 about the day of His future 2nd coming. He said only The Father knows when that day and hour will be.

8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.

That is a direct reference to the Revelation 22 "pure river of water of life". It's about the return of GOD's River of Genesis 2 back to this earth. That River is shown flowing out from under Christ's future Millennium "sanctuary" to feed other waters upon this earth, healing them (Ezekiel 47). That Ezekiel 47 Chapter even reveals its location will be in the holy land, in the middle east, as it names two locations on earth.

We aren't given that amount of detail in The New Testament Books about that River. But then again, like how and when Jesus returns per this Zech.14 Chapter, does The New Testament need to repeat all this again, when a disciple of Christ is supposed have ALREADY READ the Old Testament prophets about these details? Why should The Lord repeat Himself for the Biblically lazy when these things were already written through His prophets?

9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and His name one.

Does that say "the LORD" will be king up in Heaven, invisible, with His Church, OFF this earth? NO! because we already covered the previous Zech.14 verses which declare Lord Jesus' FEET touching down upon the literal Mount of Olives, ON EARTH, bringing His elect saints with HIm. No need to hash that out again. Jesus is coming back TO EARTH, even as the angels said in Acts 1 that Lord Jesus will return to this earth in like manner as His disciples saw Him ascend into Heaven.

10 All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin's gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king's winepresses.
11 And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.

That's about some earth changes that will happen with Christ's future 2nd coming. But it still will not be God's future new heavens and a new earth, not yet, because the wicked and unsaved will yet to be dealt with. The new heavens and new earth eternity will not happen until Satan, the wicked, the abode of hell, and death, are all cast into the future "lake of fire".

So now at this point in Zech.14, we are approaching the time of Christ's future Millennium reign over the wicked.

12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

That event is about God's "consuming fire" that will burn man's works off this earth on that "day of the Lord" when Jesus returns. The hot fiery furnace in Daniel 3 is an example of that "consuming fire", as it will not harm Christ's faithful, just as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednigo were preserved in that hot furnace with Jesus being with them in it, and they came out without their clothes even smelling of smoke. But Nebuchadnezzar's servants, just when they got near that hot fiery furnace, they were burned up, incinerated.

13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.

That is another Sign Lord Jesus gave about the end in His Olivet discourse. At the very end of this world, during the time of "great tribulation", the whole world will hate those of us who will make a stand in Jesus Christ, including our deceived loved ones will hate us (see Mark 13).

14 And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.

That is about the future battle of Armageddon, on the last day of this world when Jesus returns (Rev.19).

15 And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.

There again, on that final day of this present world, God's "consuming fire" is going to burn those things up, leaving only this earth and the things that cannot be destroyed, like Paul showed at the end of Hebrews 12.

16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Not all of the nations that will come up against Jerusalem on the last day of this world will be destroyed. Those leftovers will be made to come up to Jerusalem from year to year, and worship Lord Jesus Christ, The KING. They also will be made to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. All nations will be required to do this.

17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
18 And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

That is a verse that proves that is still NOT God's eternity of a new heavens and a new earth, simply because the above means those nations can still rebel against Christ on earth in that future time.

Can you believe it? Lord Jesus Christ emphatically revealed as Messiah The KING, on earth, and some will still... REJECT HIM in that future time?? That is why that is confirming Christ's future "thousand years" reign over all the unsaved nations as written in the Revelation 20 Chapter, which is another Bible Chapter men's doctrines hate.

20 In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD's house shall be like the bowl's before the altar.

Do you recall John 14 where Jesus told His disciples that He goes to prepare a place for them, so that they can be where He is? Well, just 'where' does this Zechariah 14 Chapter reveal where Lord Jesus will be when He comes in the future? Right here, ON EARTH.

So what's this "house" mentioned here? The detail about The Fathers "house", which Jesus said has "many mansions", is detailed in the Ezekiel 40 through 47 Chapters. Sorry pre-trib rapture folks, that Father's "house" will NOT be up in the clouds of Heaven. It is written in God's Word that it will be ON EARTH, in the area of the middle east. That "house" will be the future Millennium temple (or "sanctuary") which Lord Jesus and His elect Church will reign from with the "rod of iron" over the unsaved nations.

Don't like that maybe, since your preacher might be preaching something else? Who will you listen to then, God in His written Word, or to that preacher? Can that preacher save you?

21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.
KJV

Many are completely unaware about those Canaanite pagan foreigners that crept into Israel's priesthood back in Israel's Old Testament history. By the time of Lord Jesus' 1st coming, they had corrupted many of The LORD's commandments, replacing them with commandments of men created during the "house of Judah" Babylon captivity. They even created the Babylonian Talmud of sage writings to govern the Jew's religion, Judaism, which are still applied among the unbelieving Jews to this day. And those are the things that Lord Jesus rebuked among those scribes and Pharisees that sought to murder Him.

When Lord Jesus returns at His future 2nd coming, those false ones will be cast out of God's "house". And notice that did not say they are destroyed then yet. It's because that is Christ's future Millennium reign time with His elect.

The Rev.13:1 beast kingdom is for the end of this present world.

That Zechariah 14 Chapter is one of THE MOST IMPORTANT BIBLE CHAPTERS WRITTEN IN GOD'S WORD FOR BELIEVERS ON JESUS CHRIST!

That is because it DEFINES HOW LORD JESUS RETURNS TO THIS EARTH, WITH HIS FAITHFUL SAINTS.

And then the FACT that it also... describes CHRIST'S FUTURE REIGN OVER THE NATIONS ON THIS EARTH, that's just icing on the cake given by GOD SO THAT CHRIST'S TRUE DISCIPLES WOULD NOT BE DECEIVED BY FALSE DOCTRINES OF MEN THAT YOU HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO.

Your false understanding of Zechariah 14 shows that you have God inexplicably reinstating animal sacrifices despite Jesus making them obsolete long ago (Hebrews 8-10).

You also have God inexplicably requiring people to again go to Jerusalem to worship Him despite long ago making it so that He required people to instead worship Him in spirit and in truth wherever they are (John 4:19-24).

You also interpret Zechariah 14 in such a way that you have mortal, unbelieving survivors of Christ's return despite many scriptures saying that no mortal unbelievers will survive His return (Matthew 24:35-39, Luke 17:26-37, 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, 2 Peter 3:10-12, Revelation 19:15-18).

Brethren in Christ, if you noticed this Zechariah 14 verse suggesting animal sacrifices in that future time of Christ's return and reign, then what's going on with that, because in Hebrews we are told that Lord Jesus' Sacrifice on His cross was the one Perfect Sacrifice for sin forever. So there is no longer any need for animal sacrifices.

How then do we account for the following, since it is written for after Christ's future 2nd coming?

Zech.14:21
Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.
KJV

The Ezekiel 40, 44, and 46 Chapters, which are all future Millennium reign after Christ's return type Chapters, also mention sacrifices.

But per The New Covenant, according to Apostle Paul in Romans 12, our service in Christ represent a "living sacrifice" to Him, as animal sacrifices are no longer required. Also our praise to God represents our sacrifice now, per Hebrews 13.

Does this mean we in Christ should just DUMP those Old Testament Chapters that are given for the time AFTER Christ's future return? And those Zechariah 14, and Ezekiel 40 through 48 Chapters are definitely... for the future time AFTER Christ's future 2nd coming.

That is what some would have us do, just DUMP that part of God's Word, but WHY? Do those dump those Scriptures just because of mention of sacrifices, or are there other reasons they do that? The answer to that should be very easy, if you are a true disciple of Christ and read not only your New Testament Scriptures, but also the Old Testament Scriptures.

Some doctrines of men teach Christ's future coming opposite of what God's Word actually teaches. Some of those doctrines of men also falsely teach that Jesus raptures His Church to Heaven to live up in the clouds, instead of upon this earth. There's all sorts of wild doctrines from men that go against Christ's literal coming back to this earth to live with His saints. One of those doctrines of men doesn't even believe there will be a literal bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ! They claim it already happened back in history!

Do you think maybe, The LORD knew those would be deceived by that mention of sacrifices there within those Old Testament prophecies for after... Christ's future 2nd coming? I have no doubt He knew they would deny those Old Testament prophecies. Did you know that in Ezekiel 13, God revealed how He feels about those preachers who push the false Pre-trib Rapture theory? There in Ezekiel 13, God said He is against those who hunt the souls to make them 'fly', those preachers saying God said this or that, and God said He did not speak to them.

The question then is, do those mention of animal sacrifices in those Zechariah 14, and Ezekiel 40-46 Chapters mean literal sacrifices?? NO! for we know Christ nailed those things to His cross for one and all time. So it's important to remember, those Old Testament prophecies were given back when Israel was still under the old covenant. Don't you think it would be strange if the fact that Christ nailed those animal sacrifices to His cross was written in those Old Testament prophecies instead, the prophets and the people would find that very strange at that time?

So don't allow those men who DUMP those Old Testament prophecies sway you into disregarding all the "strong meat" Bible revelation that is written within those Old Testament prophecies for the future. When Zechariah 14 is pointing DIRECTLY to Christ's future return to the Mount of Olives, with all His saints, you well know that ain't about animal sacrifices.
