Make up some pro's and con's lists. If the pro's outnumber the con's, then...voila!

A good way to gauge someone is to get them talking about themself. If they talk long enough, they will start revealing themselves in small ways. The mask, if they’re wearing one, will slip briefly.

And if you're hiring a car mechanic, you go for the guy in dirty overalls with grease under his fingernails, not the guy in a suit and tie. :D
Not sure about that one. I used to work in an auto parts store, and we had a mechanic section that was part of the business. They had this soap that would clean the dirt from out of your fingernails so you could go home clean.

Didn't work with my ex-wife. I didn't get to know her till 6 months into marriage. And we dated for about 3 months prior.

Almost 40 years being married to the Sweet Lady, and I'm still learning things about her. :)
We were married for 8 years and worked everything out in the end. But then I got sick from surgery and things turned south from that alone. Often I think divorce comes from selfishness.

But my point was that some people are really good at hiding themselves. I have witnessed that a few times. And perhaps sometimes they don't need to hide themselves. But out of fear of judgment and wrath they do perhaps. Or loss of a work opportunity.

It probably did work with her, you just didn’t, or didn’t want to, see it. People are constantly showing you who they are if you look.

Suppose you ran a business and were hiring a new worker.
Let's suppose two people apply and they both sound fantastic with excellent references and skills and are vey good at the interview, so there's nothing to choose between them.
However, one says he's a christian, and the other says he's a nonchristian or atheist.
Which one would you hire?
False hypothetical.

There will always be practical differences, so I'd hire the one that I THOUGHT would be a better "Fit". Personally I've interviewed a lot of folks, and the question of "Religious belief" hasn't come up. If I'm programming Allen Bradley equipment, and one is Allen Bradley experienced, then he's the guy who can hit the ground running.

In theory, those same "politically correct" laws also protect us Christians if the boss doing the hiring is an atheist, or a Muslim, or a Druid... We're no longer in the majority. And that might actually be a good thing.

I'd think twice before I applied for a job at a place which had a nonchristian boss..;)
PS- Some years ago the jobcentre sent me and other unemployed people on a compusory work scheme which involved refurbishing a local Hindu temple but I refused pointblank to go, and got my dole reduced for a while as punishment..:)

Ah yes, women are a mystery to us all..:)

PS- as a shy young teenager it took me months to pluck up the courage to ask a girl for a date but she said- "Push off and kill yerself you ugly git!".
"Don't worry" my mate said, "that really means she likes you, so just be patient and wait a bit, and she'll be coming to YOU to ask for a date"..:)
60 years later I'm still waiting...

1. If a potential employer asked me about my religious affiliation, I would exit the interview.
2. If a potential employee volunteered his/her religious affiliation, I'd wonder why they were telling me.

In situations like your OP, you ask them both in for another interview, with different interview questions.

I was hired by a small local firm back in the 90's. I was in competition with five other people. Once hired, I asked the woman what the 'tipping point' was for her to hire me. She told me that several of the five were definitely more qualified than me, "But out of those five others, you, Mink, were the only one to send me a 'thank you' card after the interview."

I wouldn't. I KNOW that there are plenty of non-Christians out there who behave more like Christians than plenty of Christians!

As Christians, I'm sure we all share the same "life doctrines", e.g.-
"There is no more noble occupation in the world than to assist another human being, to help someone succeed"
-Alan Loy McGinnis (1933-2005)
"Just make up your mind at the very outset that your work is going to stand for quality... that you are going to stamp a superior quality upon everything that goes out of your hands, that whatever you do shall bear the hall-mark of excellence" - Orison Swett Marden (1850-1924)

So as we're the human races "star players", any boss would be nuts not to sign us up for his team..:)

Yes but the bottom line is that although nonchristians like to think they're nice people, they wouldn't reject Jesus if they were really nice..:)

I wouldn't necessarily say that...

People can easily say they're Christian. They say that they believe in Jesus, and yet they can be some of the meanest, snarkiest, loud-mouthed, condescending, selfish, judgmental, lying, unforgiving, militant gossips on the planet.

I actually stayed away from church for a while because of some of those so-called "Christians."

The problem is that, even as Christians, we don't ALL share the same "life doctrines."
