Suppose you ran a business and were hiring a new worker.
Let's suppose two people apply and they both sound fantastic with excellent references and skills and are vey good at the interview, so there's nothing to choose between them.
However, one says he's a christian, and the other says he's a nonchristian or atheist.
Which one would you hire?

Religious aspect, Wouldn’t matter to me. (Would probably moreso consider their circumstances...age, wanting to stock up on video games or needing to support a family.)

Why? About “Christian or Atheist”..
Because “Christian” “Atheist”, does not mean honest or ambitious to perform the tasks I would be paying them to do.

I would favor an upfront understood agreed on “probationary time slot”, to observe if I am content with their level of “honesty and ambition”.

Let me put it this way- which of the two applicants is more likely to-
1- Smoke like a chimney and need "smoke breaks"
2- Drink like a fish and turn up for work sloshed
3- Take days off for no valid reason
4- Selfishly put himself first rather than being loyal to the boss?

Isn’t that making an assumption that every single non believer smokes, drinks, doesn’t respect their boss and takes days off for no reason ………..that is tarring everyone outside the ‘ Christian camp ‘ with the same brush.
It’s also presuming a lot about the Christian as well, we would hope they don’t drink , show respect and don’t skive off work , but what if they had only just come to faith ( some traits take time for the Lord to deal with ) what if they were only claiming to be Christian ……
I would perhaps go on work history , how many jobs had they had, why they left ect. I would also take them on as a trial basis.

@Rita It's also a wide assumption that every believer does not smoke.....etc.

Some years ago when I was unemployed, the Jobcentre sent me on a "Working Links" scheme along with other unemployed, to be taught how to write job application letters, how to speak well on the phone and at interviews etc.
They gave each of us a sheet of paper and told us to write a hypothetical applic letter, after which they said they'd look at it and offer advice on how it might be improved.
In my letter I wrote that I was a Christian non-smoker and non-drinker, but when the tutors saw it they said in horror "Oooh no no no, you can't say things like that because employers wouldn't be interested!"
So if you were hiring, would CB members be interested or not?

I certainly don’t think it’s irrelevant information. I don’t think it came up when I applied for a job, but that was an application form designed by the company.

Years ago I applied for a job as lab assistant at the City of Leicester Boys School on Downing Drive and got it, the headmaster said "You wrote a very good application letter"..:)
Another time, I applied for the job of hotel porter at the Park Hotel, (London Road Leicester) and was so good at the interview that they offered me the post of General Manager instead; "You're the sort we want" they said, but sadly I couldn't take it because I was moving to Plymouth shortly, otherwise I'd have ended up as Basil Fawlty..:)

Here in the US, you can expose your company to all sorts of legal issues if you make hiring and firing decisions based on the person's religion. There are federal laws prohibiting discrimination based on " the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, transgender status, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information". This latter statement was copied and pasted from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's website.

A few years back, we were interviewing candidates for the US section of my department. Since my manager was Japanese, this had to be done by phone. One of the candidates was a Pakistani-American, and my boss started asking him questions about his religion. The young man started getting uncomfortable, and the US HR guy wasn't on the call (Japan time being somewhat inconvenient for us Yanks), so it fell to me cut off that line of questioning real quick. You just can't ask those questions here.

Same over here, it's like a minefield for bosses and they have to tread very carefully in these sick pol-correct times..:)
Perhaps applicants should discreetly attach a pic of themselves to their application letter wearing a crucifix around their neck to let the boss know they're Christians, or turn up at the interview wearing one..:)

In theory, those same "politically correct" laws also protect us Christians if the boss doing the hiring is an atheist, or a Muslim, or a Druid... We're no longer in the majority. And that might actually be a good thing.

I’ve found that I just be me and don’t worry about trying to inform people that I follow Jesus. At the right time, these things come out, and usually from being questioned by others (why are you not freaking out over this? Why are you always so calm? Why do you always seem so happy?) Of course, with that will always come someone who also hates you and wants to sabatoge you. But even there, people are watching you closely for your response to the hatred, to see if you are authentic. Try getting fired when the one who hates your calm peace and your answer for it is actually your boss! Some will say, you need to fight this! But you should, if you’ve gone ‘aways with God, answer that they wouldn’t have been able to fire you unless God allowed it, so it was just time for you to move on and that God knows what He’s doing. You don’t even know if the person God wants to see your response IS THE BOSS that fired you!
