6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
yes i know where it is. guess why i reminded you of it.
now ((obvious question)) how does death free one from sin?
Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law),
that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?
(Romans 7:1)
yes i have read all of Romans not just dozens but scores & scores of times. it is the Leviticus of the NT. very important.
that particular word in Romans 6:7 refers to
transgression -- we are free from
transgression because having died the law has no dominion over us, should we transgress it. the word literally means "
missing the mark" -- which surely you know, o great and knowledgeable Bible Teacher that you are, sent to instruct all of us.
missing what mark? well -- the mark is taken away, nailed to the cross, and so we are made "
truly free" by the Son. please forgive me for drawing your attention to the Truth again; Romans 7:1 & Romans 4:15. the Son has made us
free indeed.
it is as you earlier cited for quite different reasons: a slave is not a permanent member of the household ((as one who by constant works must prove himself worthy, never being secure)), but a son abides forever. John 8:35
salvation is the work of God, in great mercy and lovingkindness towards us.
how great is that work?
is it a mere temporary illusion of salvation that we must constantly be in fear of God changing His word to us, upheld by our own willpower devoid of any surety? does God deny His own Son because He doesn't want to eat His vegetables?
or is salvation
real ?
is
everlasting life everlasting or a temporary illusion of life waiting to be revealed as death?
it is His work and His work alone -- if you do not find me up to your personal standard of judgement because i eschew all boasting in myself, but boast in the great grace of God towards me, then take it up with Him Who works in me both to will & to do His good pleasure.
His good pleasure is that He is glorified, and i am humbled, loving justice and mercy.
will you now accuse me again of loving sin because i have lifted up His name instead of boasting in my self-righteousness of works?
is that what you call "
perfection" ?
ah! so alien to me. perhaps i have very much to learn from you, o magnified Teacher.
