I am new to Christianity, I was brought up in an Atheist household so never learnt about any religion. What advice would you give?

God will find us wherever we are and he found you so now I would say that perhaps you need to find a bible based church - if you haven't already. Read your bible too and find a mentor to talk thing through with and help you understand things.

I was 35 when God 'found' me. I was divorced and thought He would not want me but he did. My mentor was a lady called Josephine and she always had time to answer my questions.

A good solid foundation for our faith is vital if we are to continue to grow and mature right through our lives.

Also it's important to check things out and not just accept everything we are taught unless it has its roots in scripture.

My relationship with Jesus has been the best thing that happened to me and I hope you will experience the same sort of blessing throughout your life.

I'm honestly petrified to go into a church.
That's a shame. Can you say why? Probably a non denominational fellowship would be your best bet as you are not already steeped in the traditions of the main denominations. The church fellowship should become like a family and support you as you grow.

I personally cannot recommend any church not knowing who the senior pastor is. The important thing to do is to build your faith. I would pray that the Holy Spirit lead you into the right media and circumstances. In doing so the Holy Spirit will also lead you to the church he would have you in.

My autism, an unfamilar enviorment with unfamilar people makes my anxiety rise fast.
We wouldn't know anything at all is wrong with you unless you had told us. Especially as your communication is good and well formatted. The key thing to do is to build your faith. I would study the Smith Wigglesworth guy as he was a commoner who became a great man of faith...

Smith Wigglesworth was a plumber who became a renowned British Evangelist. Study the guy! You have the same potential!

Start by believing that God will never let you go.... not because you are good, but because Jesus has restored relationship between you and God.

Understand that your relationship with God, is restored by Jesus, and its maintained by Jesus.
It can't be broken, ended, stopped, or lost.

God did not take you into His family because you are good, or because you try to be good..
God only takes us into His family because JESUS has died for us, and God accepts this SACRIFICE = to accept us and keep us, forever as His own.

= This is the GRACE of GOD.
So....Put this knowledge deep and forever in your heart, as there will be those who will try to take this truth from you.

I am trying to

Jaxy,

God loves you so much. that if you were the only person on this earth.......just you alone........God would have sent Christ to the Cross for you, to die just for you, .... so that you can belong to God's Family = Forever.

God loves us all this much......... That He send His Only Begotten Son....born of a Virgin...........God sent Him to the Cross to pay for all our sins, so that our sin is no longer keeping us apart from God.

That is our SALVATION.

Jesus died to SAVE SINNERS, and aren't we glad He did ?

THANK YOU JESUS !!

Of course, I should have realised that. Do you have a friend you who could go with you until you feel comfortable? I think perhaps it's something you could pray about. I know you have only just got to know Jesus but he will help you.

Welcome to the forums! You asked a great question. My advice.
  1. Pray
  2. Find fellow believers you feel comfortable with.
  3. Find a Bible suitable translation

1. PRAY

The great gift of God is his Holy Spirit, who will guide you in all truth. Pray to God, the Father, FOR the Holy Spirit, in Jesus' name. Your prayers should mostly begin with what you are grateful for.

It is rightly said Christianity is about relationships, not religion. It means Christianity is not about doctrines and knowing all these "things." While knowledge is good, it is secondary, not the center of what it is all about. God wants a personal relationship with you. Praise God! Don't just pray for things. Pray about how you feel. Put your cares at the foot of the cross. Bring all your worries to Jesus and leave them there with him to handle. Pray for his Spirit and for his wisdom to guide you.

2. Fellow Believers

I'm not advocating for a particular denomination. Check out several churches near you. With the Holy Spirit guiding you, you will become more sensitive to his quiet urgings. You will feel which one is right for you. Go with it.

Christianity is not meant to be done alone. "Iron sharpens iron" is Proverbs 27:17. It means that a walk with God and his fellow children - your brother's and sisters - is not a theoretical exercise. It is to be done in practice.

Becoming a Christian means you may change your social group. As you are transformed by the Spirit, and grow in Christ, you may no longer fit with friends who are not going in the same direction. That's perfectly OK.

3. Bible Translation

I love the easy to read CEV and the NLT For Beginners Bible. (Check out the links)

Again, pray on what is the right translation for you. BibleGateway.com: A searchable online Bible in over 150 versions and 50 languages. is an excellent online resource to examine dozens of English translations.

Hope this helps,

Yours in Christ

I'm honestly petrified to go into a church.
I understand.

Driving into work, a person was confessing that they always thought those who go to church have their act together. Wrong! Church is not a hotel for saints but a hospital for sinners. We all fall short of the glory of God.

If I were you, I'd tell the greeter that you are a little scared about being here. I'm sure that person will do everything they can to make you feel comfortable.

What scares you about church? The big crowds? If so, before going to a church service, call the church. Ask to speak to the pastor. Tell him about where you are in your walk. That's what pastor's are there for.

Consider it like an interview, where you are doing the interviewing. Your objective is to determine which church feels right for you.

There are pros and cons to big and small congregations. The small ones allow for greater sharing during the service. The larger ones more likely have smaller groups that will cater to your particular needs and interest. At my church this fall, there was a group that I joined that went on local hikes every weekend.

No agenda. Just enjoying nature, a little exercise and doing life together. We just shared what was going on in our lives.

Hope this helps!

Something is wrong with all of us. That, our humanity, we all share.

My church has a saying that has universal applicability, even though it emerged in relation to tithing. Give until if feels good, not until it hurts. While it is sometimes necessary to go outside ones comfort zone to grow, it is not a place to always be. It sounds like you need to be aware of your limits, of when you might be approaching more stimulation than you want to handle.

With that awareness, do something about it.

Sometimes the music is too loud at my church. I used to leave the sanctuary at such times. Still do. Mostly though, I wear ear plugs.

It's been an honor to get to know you Jaxy in these few posts online. I hope to get to know you better and help anyway I can. I'm sure everyone on line here at CyB feels the same way. Just because we find out you have autism, does not mean we love you any less. You are loved by God and us, his children. Always remember that, above all else. :)
