So if people reject Jesus of their own free will then die they are tortured until they accept him?John 3:36 He who believes on the Son has everlasting life, and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides upon him.
Yes, only through belief in Christ do we have life. Everlasting in the phrase is translated as "aionios" which means "pertaining to an age" aka "agelasting".
Eventually everyone will believe in Christ and be saved.
Colossians 1:19-20: Through Christ "God was pleased ... to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross."
Matthew 18:8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to offend, cut them off and throw them from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
9 And if your eye offends you, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the hell of fire.
Everlasting fire meaning agelasting fire, thus temporary mental anguish in Sheol, until they recognize their sins and are convinced to believe in Christ with faith only. [And the plucking of the eye is to be taken metaphorically, since our bodies are temples of God and we shouldn’t harm ourselves]
2 Corinthians 5:19: "In Christ God was reconciling the world to himself."
Matthew 7:13 Go in through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many there are who go in through it.
14 Because narrow is the gate and constricted is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
The narrow gate is believing in Christ with faith alone. The wide path is doing anything else to be washed of sins. Everyone will eventually go through the narrow path, no matter how long it takes.
Romans 11:32: "For God has consigned all to disobedience, that He may have mercy on all."

God has certainly violated the will of people, take Jobe, for example.
Sadly, many of God's children don't want a relationship with him, mainly because (I believe) they have been blinded and deceived by the dark forces that permeate this world. If they knew God they would, without any doubt, run to him!
God will bring his disobedient children to him and he will chastise them for their sins but he will also cleanse, heal, and restore them so that they will become perfect and without sin. Why? Because God loves ALL of us and will not allow even one to be lost.
I believe God loves everyone. I don't believe that verse is to be taken literally in that God actually hated Esau. I presume that God was speaking to Esau's sin.

For lack of understanding you have believed a false doctrine, and now preach what is false.John 3:36 He who believes on the Son has everlasting life, and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides upon him.

If you believe in eternal conscious torment, then that is a very strange question. So if people reject Jesus of their own free will then die they are tortured until they accept him?
Who are you to declare your opinion as superior? For lack of understanding you have believed a false doctrine, and now preach what is false.
Then you claim that "no shadow of turning" means no time? Wow. Seriously?he word "everlasting" is not God or kingdom-speak, but is a worldly figure of speech, just as "yesterday, today, and forever" is regarding a place where there is actually no past, present, or future...as it is written, "no shadow of turning"--no time.
What I have declared is not my "opinion"--not mine at all.Who are you to declare your opinion as superior?

It would not appear that you are among the many who do not get God's method of operation...All these verses below use the same NT Greek word, "aionios", the Greek word mistranslated as "eternal" and "everlasting" in Matthew 25:46. See bold below. This shows that "aionios" cannot mean eternal or everlasting.
In my opinion, the torture is enlightenment - and subsequent realization of their own sinfulness and ignorance. So if people reject Jesus of their own free will then die they are tortured until they accept him?

Matthew 13:22
The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.
Romans 12:2
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
1 Corinthians 1:20
Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
1 Corinthians 2:8
None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
Ephesians 2:2
in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.
Galatians 1:4-5 KJV
Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Galatians 1:4-5 KJV

5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Compare: Matthew 12:32; Mark 10:30; Luke 18:30; Luke 20:35; Ephesians 1:21
Luke 18:29-30
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.”
Aionios, the Greek word mistranslated as "eternal" and "everlasting" in the Bible (eternal hell?)
