As the ages pass, more and more Christians are DIS-united in the things of God. We're all over the map and nobody can agree. I thank God for my sisters as, we can get together at least once a week and talk of God and the bible all the time, for hours on end and the time flies. We do not ever argue over things although we may disagree on what a thing means but, not to the level of arguing. But talking to others claiming Christianity is taking a great chance you will make an enemy :(
There must be a litmus test in your own mind as to what factor determines whether a person is just 'religious' or whether they have hooked onto the pearl of great price. What do you think it is?

Well, their fruit of course :) BUT, if you don't really know a person well enough, it's just a guess. What I think is that there are lots of folks who "attend" a church for years or even decades and play the part well and perhaps believe they are saved yet, never crack open a bible.

I have a brother like that, and he has decided to not call me because I brought up something about the Lord...he's like "I know all I need to know, find someone else more equally yoked" (eye roll) he does not study or read the Word. My sisters and I pray for him daily, he's got a lot on his plate health wise but, all he wants to talk about is football and politics! And I do not care for either.

What do you look for as a litmus test??

JFTR - I simply got these words out before he attacked me (we were in a car) "There's this guy....RIGHT THERE is where he blew up at me saying, "what guy, what guy"??!! You don't even know these people (All of you on here) I was simply going to tell him what someone on here said but, never got it out. I just shut up. Everyone is so touchy anymore, get tired of walking on eggshells.

Few actually Read Scripture.
Many use one quote against an others position, more so than to support their own position, favoring instead a list of scholars, clerics, and outside of scripture philosophies.

1)The key to the Knowledge is Big Picture:
Who, What, When, Where, Why. Ie Context!

2) The key to understanding the Knowledge …is complete step (1) Then ask God for His Understanding!

Works for me. :)

I am not bothered by who disagrees with me.
I am content being in agreement with the Lord God.

Glory to God,

I engage Christians on numerous platforms and share scriptures with them regarding various topics and EVERY time they REJECT God's words in favor of their own personal opinion. It's pointless.
I respectfully suggest that if you truly believe that you would not join a platform like this one.

I came here to share, learn, and enjoy fellowship and, besides, I didn't realize how pervasive the rejection of God's word is with so many Christians until a few days ago.

We live in a world filled with deception and believers are not immune.

Most "Christian" discussions are "Gotcha!" and ego competitions between legalists that smash one another over their respective heads with the Bible. I'm sure Jesus is thrilled.

I was browsing channels looking for Christian programming just a little while ago.
A guest on the James Robison show, Robison was not there, said over 40 million Christians have left the faith in the last 23 years. Since the turn of the century.

I've no idea how they arrive at such a number but it's still not hopeless. We're told there shall be a falling away. However, Jesus said of all whom the Father gave him he shall lose none.

Not everyone who claims to be Christian is Christian. God knows his own. And he shall lose none.

Yes, works of course but on an online forum folk can hide behind pious words, one cannot 'see' the works. What one can see is where the emphasis is. Folk can talk about 'the Lord', one can mouth the platitudes, one can quote scripture verbatim yet if one doesn't know Jesus one can't lead people to him, one doesn't bend one's energies to that end and one definitely doesn't interpret scripture through the lens of a resurrected Saviour.

You do have a point. But the Word (particularly the Gospel) is to be regarded as "seed", and the various responses are to be regarded of various kinds of soil. The sower simply sows the seeds and moves on. If they sprout, fine. If not he moves on. Jesus said that we are to "shake the dust" off our feet and move on when there is resistance to the truth.

Many "Christians" are committed to false teachings. But when they hear the truth, they double down on their nonsense, rather than give it up. That is evident here and on other Christian forums.

Here's a good example of Christians DELIBERATELY VIOLATING biblical principles and crowing about it. But the SBC did not tolerate Rick Warren's rebellion against Scripture: Southern Baptists Disfellowship Saddleback Church Over Female Pastor

Then we have Amy Grant coming along and saying that same-sex marriage is perfectly OK, when it is an abomination, and wearing a rainbow necklace to show her support.

Great observation.

I don’t walk on egg shells. Touchy is a short hand for touched in the head, which is a nice way of saying someone is crazy.

Crazy is a term that lacks technical specificity but we all know what it generally means. In our feminized society, touchy is more acceptable since being offended is all the rage.

It’s just another way of saying one is not emotionally responsible and this infantilization is growing in social acceptance.

A coworker told me his father does not let anyone swear in his house. Some might incorrectly say he is touchy on that topic. He’s not. Rather, he is taking a moral stand. People today lacking emotional responsibility also lack moral development. They cannot respond intellectually with a moral argument. They’ve been accommodated that merely emoting will suffice.

I don’t accommodate. If they are touchy, that is their problem.

I know just a few Christians that have enough humility to accept that their understanding might be incomplete. You show me 100 Christians and I can guarantee you that 97 of them are hardcore certain that their understanding is perfect. There's no point in even sharing God's word with them. They're unreachable. At least they believe in God, unlike the hardcore atheists.
I wonder how you approach what others say, do you come to any discussion believing that you are totally right, or do you listen to what others say as well. Humility is needed by all of us as none of us are above learning something new from scripture.
Humility to listen helps us to sharpen our understanding , many times someone who has a different interpretation to me has said something that has led me to re read the passage and discover something new. It may not change my over all conclusions but i still learn something.
Pride can establish itself when we think we have nothing else to learn and When that pride shows itself within discussions it doesn’t look very unattractive.

smash one another over their respective heads with the Bible.

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)

I only like smashing the devil over the head with the Bible.

Some, I want to believe, are just suckers for his lies and unwittingly work for him.

[I keep forgetting he’s ignoring me]

ahhhh, humans were chosen to share a treasure of inestimable value.....shall we complain?
Angels with greater abilities could have been chosen but it was us.

Imagine Jesus, the majesty of heaven, ridiculed, driven out of town, threatened and torturously murdered....and without complaint. Shall we not walk the same valley if called on to?

What would you say to him if he wasn't ignoring you?

(I don't think anything you posted here, so far, would be well received ... but I really liked the Butterflies.) ;)

Just out of curiosity ... did they actually ASK you a question or did you just FEEL like sharing?

"God gave us two ears and one mouth so we could listen twice as much as we talk."
"People who speak without listening are always answering questions that nobody is asking."
