Jesus himself told us plainly that "weeds" would be planted by satan in the same "field" as he planted the "wheat", and that this was to occur "while men were sleeping". So this 'counterfeit' "Christianity" was to become like weeds in a garden, taking over and trying to choke out the "wheat".....God allowed them to "grow together" however, because it is a test for all of us to choose what is in our hearts. Satan's deceptions would not be deceptions if they were obvious....we usually find out too later that we were deceived.....that will be the case when Jehovah sends his judge into the world to separate the "sheep" from the "goats". The "goats' who thought they were "sheep" will protest and try to convince Jesus that they were his disciples....and yet his response will devastate them!...."I NEVER knew you"! (Matt 7:21-23)
@Patrick1966 here is a case in point.
Jane is saying it was a Supernatural fallen angel "satan" which is the cause and affect of this false Christianity, however if you asked her for an origin story, or a chapter, or even a verse, which describes this being's plan and purpose, or even somewhere in the text where God warns His people about this being? They cannot provide any section in any of the books a story of this fallen angel, or an account where God details its trickery? Nothing!

Christians have the armour of God for a reason. Too bad if they don't put it on because the devil likes to kill and steal and destroy.

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

If Satan isn't doing exactly what God intends for him to do, why then is Satan still active in the world?

So Paul is not talking about the Literal Heavens where God dwells - boy of boy imagine principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens was sitting up with God? Madness boy I say madness!!
Of course you all can rest easy and put away your Hollywood notions; Paul is speaking about the ruling Spiritual powers being the Pharisees and Sadducee's (Sanhedrin) who were giving them all grief everywhere and causing some to be thrown into prison.
Devil simply means false accuser which is what the Jews were doing to the early believers.
Sorry Stumpy but you have been stumped on this one!
Enjoy.

Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things.

Why did the translators here not slanderers here as Satan?

When Jesus said to Peter "Get thee behind me satan" how did Jesus characterize satan in that teaching? Was Peter being an evil supernatural fallen angel or simply an adversary?

Matt 16:23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

How did Jesus define a Satan here?

I guess Satan was doing what Satan does but Jesus obviously didn't fall for any of it. I believe that Jesus's encounters with Satan were for our benefit.

Patrick,

I'll ask you the same question again to see if you are able to discern the Lord's words.

Matt 16:23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

How does Jesus define what a Satan is in his reply to Peter?

Well that's true but Jesus defines satan as being the "things concerning man and not God"

In other words, a satan here in this context is merely a man being an adversary because he is thinking selfishly i.e he wouldn't allow any harm to come to Christ which in a way he did when he cut off Malchus's ear.

No mention of an evil being here Patrick just a man being a man!

Careful reading is required when studying the Bible - happy for you to try another verse where satan is used!

Thank you.

Are you saying that Satan is not an entity or a being? Take the story of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness. Was Satan actually Jesus's own human flesh that was tempting him and not a being?

Fascinating stuff for sure!

James 1:14-15

but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Very interesting indeed.

Jesus said "the devil was a murderer from the beginning". I assume that he's referring to Satan but am I misunderstanding?

And there's a verse wherein Jesus saw "Satan" cast down from Heaven.

Is there a being named Satan?

So good to see stuff in the Bible on the internet.

SPIRITUAL ARMOUR

Helmet of Salvation = Thoughts Free of Condemnation.

Breastplate of Righteousness = Heart Full of Godliness.

Girdle of Truth = Covering Secured by Living Proof.

Footwear of the Preparation of the Gospel of Peace = Stability in Readiness to Preach.

Shield of Faith = Protection Impenetrable because of Belief.

Sword of the Spirit = Attack Effectual with the Word that is Perfect.

Praying in the Spirit = Requests Holy not that of the Hypocrite.

So the meaning of a devil is one who is a false accuser, so this word is only ever going to be used in the negative, whereas its possible to be a good adversary (satan).

Your reference to John 8 is a good one.

He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

HIS NATIVE LANGUAGE: Or "according to his nature" (RSV).

Who, or what did Jesus have in mind when speaking to the Jews that day?

What symbolized as the liar in the beginning and subsequently was lifted up upon a pole and crucified?

Plenty of clues there for you

Yes, and according to the inspired Word of God which is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness, not only is Satan a being but his angels are also.

Rev 12:9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

..... which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of evil.
Nothing here of an evil supernatural being....just the spiritual weaponry to assist those in overcoming the temptations (lusts) of our nature.

So Paul was referring to the religious leaders in Jerusalem and not about dark, spiritual, forces? If so, that is certainly an eye-opener because this verse is commonly shared to point out how we are in a constant battle with them.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Correct.

Here Jesus is warning of their treatment of the first century churchs

Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil (i.e Judaisers) will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown. Rev 2:10

Can you imagine believing it was evil demonic beings putting these believers in prison LOL

How many of your Christian brothers and sisters have been cast into prison recently LOL

Christians are so gullible.
