.It's a common misunderstanding.....According to your man-made interpretation of that passage.
Is that a yes, that we will examine the passage to find out what it REALLY says? It's ain't me, that's just you pointing fingers. Read the verse yourself, learn what the words mean, and you'll see it too, if you let yourself.

I'll give you a clue . . . Peter is writing about the origin of the prophecies, how the prophet didn't just write out his own thoughts. It's right there, all you need is the courage to give an honest and real look.

YOU keep the FUN in funny!

Yes, YOU should instruct ME "more correctly on what Peter wrote" because YOU know better than ME or any other man! :jest:
Ridicule does not become you. You have an opportunity to learn something here, do you want it? It looks like you don't. Which speaks much.
You laugh at others, and close your ears. OK.

Much love!

Thanks Marks.

I sincerely want to know what your interpretation of that passage is. What you posted makes no sense to me.

Can you tell me what all that means?

Mary

Here is JP Green's translation:

2 Peter 1:20-21 LITV
20) knowing this first, that every prophecy of Scripture did not come into being of its own interpretation;
21) for prophecy was not at any time borne by the will of man, but being borne along by the Holy Spirit, holy men of God spoke.

And Young's:
2 Peter 1:20-21 YLT
20) this first knowing, that no prophecy of the Writing doth come of private exposition,
21) for not by will of man did ever prophecy come, but by the Holy Spirit borne on holy men of God spake.

This word, ginetai, speaks of coming to be, to be generated, made, like that. This passage concerns the origin of the prophecies.

Are you seeing this?

Much love!

I'm not interested in showing you my interpretation. I want to show you what the words say. After that, you will know for yourself.

My arrogance? I don't think you know me very well at all. But you can justify yourself all you like, I don't really care. I don't really care whether you think I'm arrogant. I care that you can understand the Scriptures.

Much love!

Where does Scripture give the criteria that one has to meet for a personal relationship with God? What are the rules? How do I know WHAT I need to do to have a personal relationship with God?
The first and foremost rule of having the remotest chance of having a personal relationship with God through Jesus is REPENTING of living a sinful lifestyle.

By repentance we mean completely changing your attitudes about sin and sinful lifestyles.

Meaning you give up ALL lifestyle sins. (Homosexuality or any other perversion) gang affiliations and whatever else that is obviously wrong.

And the real trick is to actually do it....
Obviously people have sins they would rather keep. Because this thread wouldn't be so long and this question wouldn't be repeated every other day.

Which proves the point....people prefer sin to God.

No, I am not seeing what you are seeing. Here is what I CLEARLY see that YOU must understand: no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God!

To the overseers of The Church: take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

To the members of The Church: Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

Now if you want to pretend that you can interpret Scripture on your own then keep pretending. I don't play pretend games. Scripture advises against it. I believe scripture...Not you.

Well, it looks like both you and I can't find anything in Scripture that tells us the criteria for having a personal relationship with God.

So then you do not see this is speaking of the origin of the prophecy, even though that's what it says. So who is pretending???

Did you have any thoughts on what I've posted? The other translations? A look at the Greek?

Much love!
I did have thoughts on it. I responded. I think both of us are responding before the other has a chance to read our response...:)
